Been working on my swing. Derp.

Specifically, feeling like I'm pulling my left hip back away from the target line drills. Been experimenting with the effects this has on my arms/shaft for a week or so now. Have come across a few acceptable down swing moves, but my favorite by far is the "laying the shaft down" one.

Spent 5 minutes doing old "settle in" drill from Titleist Performance Institute.

I stood back looking at target area, took a stance and an address position, and then settled in: I let myself feel balanced on the balls of my feet, before starting takeaway.

If I did this during rounds - settle in about three extra seconds before hitting shot, I tended to have much fewer off-balance shots on the day.

I remembered this while hitting wedges over the weekend.

Worked on my putting stroke for about 15 minutes. Just working on my start line and making a proper stroke (i.e., not accelerating through the ball).

In a recent golf lesson, I learned that in my move through the ball (paraphrasing and shortening for brevity's sake) my right side sort of comes in too high. I need to get my right shoulder and right arm working down more.

I've been practicing this just in little chippy swings in my office. Making my right shoulder work down (and left shoulder up) through the ball. "Finishing" with the same angles in my spine, shoulders, eyes, etc. at the finish. Moving through the ball, I try to keep my hands ahead and have inline impact.

Compared to my grooved move, this makes me feel like I'm going to shank the ball.

Instructors, feel free to chime in here...I think doing this move on a chip length swing is a good thing....but I'm open to suggestions for other drills or to modify this drill.

Finally....also doing super slow-mo full swings, concentrating on the transition, having the club still moving back slightly while the hips slide and the left knee moves toward the target. The "squat" move.

Went to the range today. I continued to focus on my backswing for over half of the bucket. The rest of the balls I demoed the new Ping G driver. I ended up trading in my driver and a 3W for it. I didnt see much of a gain in anything with the G but it sounded and felt better than my previous driver the G30.

4/5/16:

Worked on the shoulder pitch with driveway sticks drill for 5 or so minutes on break at work.

Today I slowed the motions of it down just a bit trying to get the feel of the proper shoulder pitch at A4 as opposed to doing it at full speed, it was maybe half speed or perhaps less than half, just trying to slowly get the proper feel of the proper position... Small successes, that's the name of the game.

Drizzly and cold out.  No practice greens today.  Spent 10 minutes practice putting indoors.  Working on alignment.  I have a problem getting my eyes lined up over the ball.  I tend to position my eyes about an inch outside the ball.  This causes a pull which I've subconsciously learned to compensate for. I need to line up, eyes over the ball, and knock it straight in.  It's a work in progress. :-D

20 minutes mirror work. Focused on pressing hip a bit more forward at setup to help the hip turn. Then flatter shaft at A5.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
