I wonder if with not seeing Tiger lately and not committing to any of the typical tournaments this time of year.  I wonder if he is taking care of himself to make sure he is ready for Olympics.  With that said, I'm not read up on what the qualifying criteria is so don't even know if he can.

Olympics? Are you serious? Qualification for Olympics golf will be based on the OWGR of July 11, 2016. The U.S. can have 4 players and, based the current OWGR, they'd be Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, and Dustin Johnson. Tiger Woods is currently #472 overall in the OWGR, and is about 150th among U.S. players. This might be a bit of an exaggeration, but Tiger has as much of a chance to be on the 2016 Olympic team as you or I do. In other words, don't bet on it.

Ok, I said I didn't know what the qualification criteria was.  Didn't know if there was a "captains" pic or something. No need to come in with attitude.

I think it's Top-15 No matter what country but no more than four from one country, then it drops to Top-60 and at least 1 from different country, they want all 6 inhabited continents represented.

In my opinion it's a bogus system, if the IGF wants to include the Top-50 or 60 fine. But don't limit the field to 60, That makes the Olympic Golf Tournament the hardest tournament to qualify for... PERIOD.

Open up Olympic Trial qualifying and expand the field to let's say 100-120 men and women, or make it so all 16 men's and 20 women's major champions automatically qualify for the Olympics.

I think Tiger is already mathematically eliminated from even qualifiying for the Olympics lol. He's dropped that much in the OWGR.

I'd be some what surprised if he tees it up in a pro tournament at all this year.

As for the olympics I would like to know if, and how much these pro golfers will be paid, if it's more than normal what the other athletes are being paid.

I think he'll tee it up at some point. My guess is he's aiming for The Memorial. I'm hoping he plays the US Open since I'll be attending this year. The fact he was even thinking about playing Augusta is an indication he's at least somewhat close.

I'd be much more interested in the Olympics, if, say, the team came from the American players at the top of last year's U.S. Amateur Championship.

Besides which, DeChambeau would represent a better prospect for success this summer than Woods, in any case...

Why don't you want it to be a hard tournament to qualify for?  I don't see that as a bad thing at all.  The smaller the field and the harder to get in should make for interesting golf IMO.

Yes make it hard to qualify for I get that, but just using the OWGR is just lazy.

I don't have an attitude, I'm merely stating the facts. There are no captain's picks for the Olympics. If there were, why would a pick be used on the player ranked #472 in the world? Perhaps you're new to the game and aren't aware of some of the qualification criteria, but those are readily available through a quick Google search.

It is kind of a bummer we'll never see Tiger in the Olympics.

Even if he came back by let's say the Memorial, there is no possible way for him to qualify, too many Americans in front of him... Winning a major would jump him a bunch, but the only major before July 11th he COULD play is the U.S. Open at Oakmont. Even then, he can't make it...

The only reason I know this, is because David Duval was the 882nd ranked player before he finished T2 at Bethpage in '09 he jumped to 142nd.

If Tiger would have returned for the Masters, he possibly could've jumped back into the Top-60 by July 11th, but there's too many Americans in front of him.

This is a little related, but with a couple good majors, Phil could be representing the U.S. in Rio. He just needs to jump in front of one of the four top ranked Americans... A major win would definitely help.

I personally think the July 11th deadline is a little early, I think it should be after Troon.

So it's the hardest to qualify for...what's wrong with that? There's no need to have qualifying, because the best players will be there no matter what. And how could you have qualifying for those players on the PGA Tour? They're playing every week already.

Agreed, it's a great field, and hard to qualify for... But 60 players? Come on IOC and IGF... They could make the qualifying criteria a little different.

Say they wanted to keep at 60... Take the top-40 in the OWGR, top 10 no matter the country no more than three from a country... Lock the Top-40 6 months prior to the Olympic Cutoff date. Determine the final 20 spots over the final 26 weeks prior to said cutoff date... The top player from each of 20 different countries who accummulates the most World ranking points goes to the Olympics.

The system isn't perfect but I'm ok with it because I don't necessarily want the top 60 in the world. That would encompass, what?  5 countries, 8?  I like that more countries are involved, more the better.  Sure, maybe they don't have a shot at winning but it's about the opportunity to compete.

How bout those Jamaican bobsledders?  No idea how they got in but it sure was a wonderful story.  Never know what might happen.

They do not use the OWGR, that would be too easy.
The Olympics have their own ratings  - http://www.igfgolf.org/olympic-games/qualification-system/ogr-men/

And here are the qualification rules

The IOC has restricted the IGF to an Olympic field of 60 players for each of the men’s and women’s competition. The IGF will utilise the official world golf rankings to create the Olympic golf rankings as a method of determining eligibility. The top-15 world-ranked players will be eligible for the Olympics, with a limit of four players from a given country. Beyond the top-15, players will be eligible based on the world rankings, with a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not already have two or more players among the top-15.

For more details on the qualification system for the 2016 Olympic Game, please click here and view the IGF Nationality Policy.

here are the detail qualification rules - http://igfederation.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/2015-11-Rio-2016-Qualification-System-FINAL-Golf-EN.pdf

So maybe Tiger can qualify if he can claim citizenship in another country (disclaimer: I have not read all the Olympic rules)
