Plus this week's tournament at Congressional, which won't against those remaining exemptions.

How has he managed so many?  This week is his 7th regular tour event as a professional (plus the US Open which he qualified for).  I know he got a freebie at San Antonio due to his T4 at Harbour Town, but he only made two cuts in the next 6 events.

A couple other events were "special" exemptions that didn't count towards his total.  Quick search of pgatour.com didn't come up with the articles that explained them.

The PGA Tour must have the most complicated system of any professional sport.

As a non-member, the 22-year-old can receive a maximum of seven sponsor exemptions. That’s why he’s in the field for this week’s RBC Heritage, as well as next week’s Valero Texas Open, and the Wells Fargo, Byron Nelson and Colonial next month. As the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, he is also exempt into the Memorial and Quicken Loans National, and those starts will not count against his seven. If DeChambeau finishes in the top 10 in a tournament, he is automatically entered into the following week’s event and it does not count against his total.

Currently 3 over with about 9 to play at Congressional.  He's got time but currently the projected cut is E.

This is not based on true numbers but my impression from watching leaderboards is that when he's hovering near the cut line and starts to slip he has trouble getting back on track..

He just shot 32 on the back nine.  If he were on the forum, he would reply with this:

That's hardly an appropriate response for a "scientist."

He majored in Physics. Did he even graduate? He is not a scientist. He is a golfer who likes science.

Agree 100%.

He studied undergraduate physics for 3 years then quit to play golf.  A scientist he is not, but don't tell him that:

At this rate, we'll forget all about Bryson by Sunday, when Jon Rahm wins in his first professional start.

And apparently helping to design golf clubs...

He was using a new set of custom-built clubs from Cobra with tape across the back, as they are set to be unveiled “soon,” according to DeChambeau, who was involved with the design process.

http://www.pgatour.com/news/2016/07/19/dechambeau-returns-to-canada.html

Of course, "involved with the design process" could be as little as:

Cobra Club Designer-Guy: Hey Bryson, check these out.

Bryson: Nice

Cobra Marketing Guy: Bryson helped design these!

If they are single length clubs I wouldn't be shocked that Bryson had input into them, especially if they are based on his previous clubs from Edel.  No one is going to buy a standard set (variable length) of golf clubs because Bryson had design input into them, he hasn't even made it permanently on the PGA Tour yet.

I totally agree, but why would they buy single length clubs he helped design?  Not only does he not have his Tour card, he doesn't even have unlimited exemptions.

My guess is when they started the design process he was more in golf news (Masters success) and he's pioneering the single length club movement on the Pro Tour (if he can qualify).

It is/was a big gamble on Cobra's part, if he doesn't get his pro card by the end of the season he'll probably be the best compensated guy on the web.com tour and no one will care about his hat or his clubs.
