Is it just me or are there others like this ....... In the past two years I can't remember how many clubs I have bought and gave them a try. For instance, I bought two 3 FW's, a Callaway Big Bertha, and a Adams Speed Line Super S. After trying both them out I decided the Adams FW out performed the Callaway, even though the Callaway was the more expensive of the two clubs so I sold the Callaway and kept the Adams FW. I also can't remember how many drivers I bought only to later sell because I wasn't happy with them. I bought both new and used clubs and have kept only the clubs that seem to work best for me. The same thing goes for balls, I will buy a dozen balls just to try them out and see if I like them. Currently, I plan on keeping the clubs I have however I did just put a bid in on a Adams hybrid that's for sale on ebay simply because, I want to give it a try and see if it will work for me. And if it don't it will be up for sale just like the others that didn't satisfy me..

I think once you realize a club cant fix a flawed swing, you'll hopefully fix the flaw, and then find the clubs work a lot better and hang on to them.

I'm the exact opposite. When I find equipment I like I tend to hang onto it. I am a creature of habit and don't like a lot of change.

I do know a few guys that also "club-ho". Some are hackers, some are good. I can't justify the constant change and trying to get used to knew clubs all the time.

If you read my post again you will find that I indeed do keep the equipment I like and which works for me. The ones that I don't like and don't work so good for me are the ones I sell

That's what I have been doing.

I cleaned out a storage room I have. Found about $3K just in putters. These are from a few decades ago when I was foolish with my money. My current gamer is a really cheap putter. It's just golf, where club whoring just can' t be explained properly.

I'm always looking for 3w's. I've wanted to change my current one a half-dozen times, and have already been through 3 in less than 2 years playing. Hit a couple bad ones on the course, and I honestly feel like I need a different shaft or etc.

Never mind the fact that a 3w is maybe just kind of hard to pure all of the time.

I wasn't aware that you are wary of your underware.

I've done this with woods and usually get lucky right away. I am only on my 4th 3 wood and 3rd 5 wood. I've only owned 3 putters and still have two of them. I was playing the same set of Cleveland TA5 irons for 17 years, when all of a sudden I got interested in replacing them.

i ended up with Taylormade Rocketbladez and I feel I have made a horrible trade. I cannot hit these irons very well, hell, I can't hit the 5 or 6 iron at all. Everything has changed. All of a sudden I'm hitting many shots off the toe, hitting so fat that I can't even make decent contact. It's seems that I made a bad choice. I will continue to work with them on the range, but in no way will I play a round of golf with them yet.

this has put my golf game on hold until I can make solid contact with these clubs. The most ironic thing about my situation is that in the round just prior to receiving the new irons, I hit, without a doubt the best 6 iron & 5 iron shots in ever.

If you have the money to do that, then what ever makes you happy. Have you ever taken any lessons from a golf professional?

The clubs which I bought were all sold at the price I paid for them or close to the price which I paid for them and seeing I get good buys on them through ebay, then it's not hard to resell them to people who are looking at the prices clubs are selling for at Dick's Sporting Goods. Dick's has a huge mark up compared to ebay prices.

I have had free lessons from a golf addict friend of mine who is a 2 or 3 HC'er. He's an excellent instructor.

If you were able to get a good deal and paid a lower price for those irons on ebay or Global Golf and didn't buy them at Dick's you should be able to sell them for about what you paid for them and get into something else. If you bought them at a place like Dick's and paid premium price for them then most likely you will take a loss if you try to sell them.

I'm totally the opposite.  Not once in my entire life have I hit a club before purchasing it.  Not once have I ever returned any clubs.  I just pick them based on research, buy them on-line (used) and play them.  I always say "I'm going to take these and get them adjusted" . .but I never do.  I just adjust myself to them.

The closest I ever came to returning clubs was a used set of Ping I-5's that I bought and just couldn't get the feel of . .so I played them for a year and now they sit in my garage.

Edit . .I'm probably pretty strange when it comes to drivers, especially.  My driver is a few years old TaylorMade - not sure the model because it's in my car right now.  But I bought it without ever hitting it and I've never hit any other driver since I bought it.

The only fairway wood I carry is a 4w and I've only ever hit 1 4w in my entire life . .the one I currently have.  It's an Adams - also in my car so not sure which one.  I love it.  It's probably my favorite club.

I started to get into buying without trying first usually internet purchases on drivers . Did not work out so well. I got some lessons under my belt and have a bit more consistent swing but I now hit stuff on a monitor before I buy it. It's not the be all to end all method but it works out much better.

It probably would give me better results to get properly fitted for a driver but I look at it like this . . I got a fairly "std" driver - tons of people use the same one.  It has a stiff shaft so it's at least not too wiggly for me . it might be too stiff, though.  So - I hit it pretty good and I'm not too worried about how much better I might hit some other driver.  I can't imagine I'd get more than  . .oh, I don't know .. 15 yards?  I can get 30 yards by hitting my driver better, though.

I do not change clubs seasonally. Though I like to play new and different clubs. I do stick with a set for a 2-4 years. I am more likely to change drivers over other clubs.

Here I go again. Just now I purchased a new Adams Idea Super DHY. The price was too good to refuse. Seeing how I got it a such a great price I'm sure I won't have any problem reselling it for what I paid for it if I don't like it. There also is a Tour Edge Hybrid that is selling for a really low price that I'm looking into.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
