That guy seems like a pretty awesome person to hang out with. Pretty much a normal guy who just happens to be a tour pro.

Ha ha!  That's awesome.  He seems just like a regular guy.  Well, except he has 1 in a million golf talent.  :-D

I guess I can see the racing as slightly over the top and deserving of the suspension, but it is probably a little harsh. He probably should have refrained from the racing part and it would have been fine.

Was thinking the same thing and suspect that, since the video is public, the club felt compelled to hand out some formal sanctions (even if only trivial) to save face internally and externally).

He's like the kid in school who never let detention get in the way of a good time. I like him a lot more now and am sure the membership applications just increased at that club. Great PR.

I'm thinking some of the more senior members of the club may have gotten their panties in a wad, and pushed for some action.  Had the racing part not been on there and the video not been public I think it would have been a non-issue.

He's a guy I really like on tour.

Yea the racing part was definitely a no no on film but that crap happens all the time. Jamming the cart into the sewer was the worst of it.

One other thing was in part of the video, you can see Kevin in the back ground taking a leak, I am sure that didn't help either.

I thought the video was great. Other than the cart racing there isn't anything you wouldn't see at any private club in America. I agree with above that they suspended him solely because they had to save face. BS petty results from a great video.

He seems like a good guy, and I'd love to be part of that group, but the cart racing just can't be tolerated.  If I'm one of the equity owners, and you're busting up the carts I own, you're no longer permitted to drive one of them.  Its simple, drive them safely, or walk.  Additionally, if some bozo is racing carts, with the implied permission of the club (Kevin can race, so it must be OK for me too) and cracks his skull open, the club is going to be facing a negligence lawsuit.  The club didn't have any choice but to suspend him.  Still, looks like a good time, doesn't it?

Yea I agree. I found that really funny. I had to look to make sure it was him. The "pee stance" was a dead give away...

I think Kevin had his own cart but I agree and from his responses on twitter and other sources, he felt like it was justified and accepted this suspension, just kind nonchalantly though. Which is funny in itself. Personally I think it was totally worth it, haha!

My fav quote from the video, and I am paraphrasing a little, "When I was young and my dad knew I had come home late after drinking all night...."

I thought the same thing, his cart was dark, the rest were white.  As a club. you just can't accept these guys damaging club property, and more than you would accept them tearing up the bar or busting out windows for fun.  Good on the club for suspending all the guys, instead of just making a public example of one guy.  I imagine they'll all spend a month on  the bench, and go right back to being fun-loving knuckleheads, hopefully without the cart races.  Heck, if you wanna race, put that big old golf bag on your back and race to the first green.  I'd pay big money to see that!

Excellent point.

These guys would never walk into the bar and just smash windows for fun.  Why is it ok to smash up the golf cart then?  The repair costs have to be equal, if not more for the cart.

As I said, I completely agree and would not be happy seeing it at my club, but in the spirit of the video it was hilarious. I think it was stupid, dangerous, disrespectful but funny. They do deserve to be in trouble or some sort of punishment. That being said, our best humor is some of the dumbest $3!t we have ever done...

Outstanding idea! Probably would make for great TV also. Although after what seemed like a few beers it might get ugly fast.

I notice that the clubs carts were Club Car brand and that his was an EZ-Go ... only noticeable because he also had a big fat sponsorship patch on his shirt that said EZ-Go. :-P

Maybe they sponsored the video.

    • Agreed, the way the rule reads is, "If the player’s ball in play is in the teeing area after A stroke."  It states A stroke, not the FIRST stroke on that hole. It specifies this applies to missing the ball and a drive that does not leave that teeing area but does not make a provision for any other stroke. The rules however define the teeing area as "The area the player must play from in starting the hole they are playing." and further states that "All other teeing locations on the course (whether on the same hole or any other hole) are part of the general area." The way I read it is if your ball comes to rest on the tee box you started the hole from you can re-tee it, but not from another tee box on that hole or another hole. An interesting way I think someone could use this rule is if they topped a drive then topped a fairway wood, and had let's say 300 in from a terrible lie, not confident they can get a fairway wood in the air. If the tee box is back on the line for an unplayable drop, they could drop in the tee box and re-tee. Super specific instance, and am not sure if the rule applies after a drop and not a stroke...
    • For clarity, and my edification, if the ball leaves the teeing area, hits something (a tree perhaps) and bounces back into the teeing area, can you retee? I think you can, but I'm not 100% sure. Further, if you skewer one into trees right near the tee, then attempt to play it out of those trees and it hits one of the trees and rebounds back into the teeing area, can you retee? That one I'm not sure about at all.   Edit: looks like it doesn't matter how the ball got there - if it's in the teeing area then you can retee it and move it. So that's a new answer to the "when can you move the ball closer to the hole?" question.
    • Right and in this instance, it's probably not unreasonable, given that the people doing this likely play matches against each other under those rules, so they should within their group have handicaps consistent with how they play. If they play anyone who's not willing to accept the "within the leather" thing, then they're only hurting themselves. IMO vanity caps are only an issue if handicap is determining eligibility for something and someone better, but with a higher index is squeezed out as a result.
    • OK, I didn't think gimmies were allowed in stroke play.
    • You can post your most likely score, Matt. That's fine.
