A swing thought that worked on the range the previous day will expire on Hole #4 the next day on the course. What you thought was the key to the universe always turn out to be fleeting, and the rest of the round, you kick yourself for thinking that things were that simple.

For some rounds, that same swing thought will mysteriously work again on the approach at Hole #18, planting further doubt whether or not you are onto something. But that was the simply the gods deliberately confusing you, so that when you next speak to your instructor, you will be baffled on your answer as to whether or not you were making progress.

There is one golf truth that always seems to hold water for me. 

You never not "figured it out." Any time you have a revelation about your game, your swing, whatever, don't expect that insight to hold water for 18 more holes. I don't care how good your last range session was, or how well you finished the back 9 of your last round. If you can't wait to get back out to the course to revel in your new skill, the golf gods will inevitably punish you with a bunch of baffling mishits. 

This holds doubly true if you have blown off important work and family commitments to be back on the course.

There will always be one facet of my game that will be in the crapper.

If I'm putting lights out and striping my irons, every drive will be topped down the fairway or snap-hooked into the woods.

If I'm piping drives and dropping putts from everywhere, I'm laying sod over every single iron.

If I'm striping my irons and driver, I'm putting the ball off the green and into bunkers and/or lakes.

Every time you get a birdie, the next 3 holes are guaranteed to get no better than double bogey.

Whenever you text a buddy from the course to tell him how good of a front nine you just had, you can guarantee to add 10 strokes to the back.

A golf umbrella left in the trunk of your car assures that it will rain within the next 4 hours.

Put sunscreen on and the clouds will roll in.

The longest tee shot you hit with a slight draw will occur on a dogleg right hole (left-handed version is, of course, the opposite).

When you pure a 7-iron 175 yards, the hole is a 150 yard par 3, usually with water past the green.

Almost driving a 320 yard par 4 will always be followed by a skulled wedge or  thin chip shot unless there is a bunker nearby, in which case it will be a shank into the bunker.

The fresher and deeper a divot hole in the middle of the fairway, the more likely your drive will find it.  If one of the group in front of you made the divot hole, they will also play incredibly slowly.

If you want an incredibly sunny day, forget your hat.

I always always always slice my driver left...until there is a hazard is on the right side.  Then the ball goes straight into hazard on the right.

I can make dozens of chips without chunking the ball.  Throw a bunker between the green and where my ball is and I will chunk it into the bunker every time.
