Ouch. An obvious thought though, given their histories. But don't all winners have a horror story? At least one.

These greens are getting into my head. Not really enjoying how crazy they are.  Would rather the players were challenged by tight fairways, thick rough and the elements than by tricked up greens.  I'm playing later today, I guarantee I'll be short on the 1st 2 or 3 holes with Oakmont in my head.

Who the frick is Greg Bordry?

And starting to put Rory on 63 watch....or dare I say 62?

Edit: Rory got the message he needs to wake the **** up. Why didn't Rickie?

Once again the US Open is just not entertaining.  My complaint about the golf course is that the greens are too fast.  IMO, the USGA has screwed up a great track trying to protect par.

Too fast? These greens are pretty slow for Oakmonts standards. What makes the US Open great is the challenge of it and the fact par is a good score. If they made the greens slow and made scoring better, then it'd lose its identity and be just any other tournament.

Have to say I disagree. I like that they make it this tough as it's a mental test as much as anything else. We can see birdies and eagles left, right and centre on any other PGA Tour weekend - you know when they get one here, they've really earnt it!

Gregory Bourdy at Oakmont tying Johnny Miller would be the greatest thing ever and I love it.

I doubt it.  No club double rolls and triple cuts greens to get them to 15 for their members.  13, 13.5 is plenty fast.

Bubba is the only golfer that I enjoy watching screw things up. Watch him go and blame anyone or anything else...

The members claim it's like this all the time but I agree with you - I have a hard time believing that.

Somewhat related ... I'm still a big fan of Jordan but his commentary after all of his poor shots or "bad breaks" is starting to sound a lot like Bubbas complaints/excuses.

Spieth +4, McIlroy +5 and Day +5. That's not good.

A lot of analysts were saying they thought the big names would rise to the top this week. It's not looking like that at all. Looks like the final pairing this afternoon will be Landry, Bourdy and DJ. Second final will be Piercy, Summerhays and Sergio.

The top of the leaderboard ranges from shaky to unproven; Day and McIlroy are trending upward, at least, and they'll be playing their third rounds on the opposite side of the course as the lead pack. A lot can change this afternoon.

Not even sure Spieth and McIroy are gonna make the cut at this point. It will be a great weekend regardless and I look forward to it, but for those who tune in to see the big boys duel it out, this probably isn't going to be your weekend. Personally, I would love to see Zach get a 3rd major and be just one major away from the career slam.

Zach lays up on #17 and misses the fairway wide right.  Hacks out, hits a wedge shot and has to make a low-probability putt to save his par.

Dustin went for it both days and made par, having had a real shot at birdie both days.

One more way Dustin Johnson is a smarter golfer than Zach Johnson.

I'm really enjoying this tournament.  Not many U.S. Opens you can play poorly for the first two rounds and still play on Saturday. :-)

I do have to wonder if they'll finish by tomorrow afternoon.  I have work on Monday that I can't (and won't) beg out of.

Whilst I'm sad to see Rory drop out, a 7 over round should take you out of a major. Just mentally not as strong as some of the others out there for me. It's a shame, as I love to watch him when he's on form.

You look at the four majors Rory's won, they've all been on relatively easy tracks. It seems like the more difficult the track, the more he struggles. I know he's got a good relationship with his caddie, but I wonder if he should consider a change towards someone who specializes more in putting. Any track with fast greens just give him all sorts of problems. I think he'll be fine at Troon in July, but if his putting woes continue, he's not going to be racking up many US Opens or Masters in his career.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
