Stopped by the local Sports Authority today to check the closeout sale. Most items including golf are 30% off.

Good chance to pick up drivers, FWs and hybrids for TM Aeroburner and SLDR, plus Nike Vapor Speed. Brand name golf bags have also been discounted, including TM, Callaway, Titleist and Ogio.

Gloves: Some Bionic StableGrip, plus second tier models. // Lots of Tommy Armour golf balls of different sorts, along with hitting nets and other training stuff.

Note: Store fixtures are for sale, including an indoor hitting net for golf (which I don't think they ever hung up). SA had a putting green, but no place to hit clubs.

(I used to get workout gear at SA).

I practice regularly at a huge Golfsmith store that has lots of inside mats and nets. I make my golf purchases there even though I could get cheaper on Amazon. I'd hate to see this store go out of business.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

I thought so. They sent me an email today and said hurry in final day is the 28th. I have been to these kind of going out of business sales and if you are not there on the day the sale starts it is very slim pickins after that.

What other brick and mortars do you think are going to be closing when then do not keep up with the online sales?

I stopped in yesterday and all I saw in the golf section was a huge bin of club covers.

I did score big time on some football gear for my son.

I got 2 football shirts, 1 pair of padded pants, 2 pair of all sport socks and some Nike cleats for $30.00

That was a nice visit, saved huge over going to Dicks.  I went there after to buy another pair of pants and spent $34.00 for them.

Selection slim in SA's last 53 hours here...

Similar to what I found:A bin of head covers for $1.97 each, and mixed rack of golf and handball gloves and various golf and tennis items. Only golf clubs = two Cleveland Tour Action wedges - slight rusting - display props for $3 each.

I did get a Tourna Elbow Guard band for $5.29, designed to lessen both golf and tennis elbow pain.

Some cold weather workout gear, but that's about it. Sadly, several of the remaining SA red shirts for sale had snags in them.

Judge zaps SA executive bonuses

US bankruptcy judge Mary Walrath has ruled that Sports Authority executives are not entitled to $2.85 million in bonuses for overseeing the company's demise. Some 14,000 SA workers lost their jobs when the company tanked.

This link features Judge's remarks.

I do feel bad for all those who lost their jobs. The ones I dealt with were very helpful people.

SA was my go to sports store in my hometown. Folks there were always helpful.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
