I don't think it's the new logo. I think it's just a temporary tribute to Arnie.

I saw it retweeted by The European Tour saying it should be the new logo. Here's a cleaned up version from reddit:

That is the 1st thing that came to my mind as well.

My fault for not being clear. Should it be the new logo? I like the tribute, but lets wait a bit before making a  permanent change.

Meh. The silhouette doesn't balance out the negative space as well as the current logo.

Interesting, apparently the current logo isn't actually modeled after anyone --- there is no 'Jerry West' for the PGA Tour.

Jerry West is the logo for the NBA, not the PGA Tour.  Some people have said the logo is that of Ben Hogan, but it has been confirmed that the silhouette represents no one in particular...

I think he knew that… He was saying that there's no specific model for the PGA Tour like Jerry West is for the NBA.

Retirement?

And I kind of like the "tribute" logo, I wouldn't mind seeing it adopted, at least for a season.  Arnold came at the right time, basically at the beginning of golf on TV,  to help popularize golf.  To my mind, he had more to do with golf's popularity than anyone ever had, until Tiger.  It would seem appropriate for the tour to honor him.

I'm a little ways from that...like 35 years from that!

I think the new logo is good for golf, it's a great way to recognize those that have contributed greatly to where it is.

While others before Arnold Palmer made great contributions, he's a great person to start the tradition.

The question is once it's about an individual, does it evolve over time to honor other individuals that have equally contributed and passed on as well?

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
