I love reading these "passive aggressive notes" you find all over the web nowadays, they're great. I ran into one of these myself I believe, although I'm not sure it was at me?

I was walking and on #8 about to tee off. I knew there was a guy in front of my. Older gentleman in a cart. From #7 par 3 I saw him flub his drive 150 yards down the fairway, then flub a long iron, then flub another club down the hill going down to the green. I'm walking behind #8 green as I see him drive off to #9, where I can't see him, so I hit my drive. As I'm walking I notice a ball in the fairway. I know it's not anybody's played shot, it was one of those areas of the course where that's not possible. But... it's right smack in the middle of the fairway at about 200 yards. I hit my drive about 250 but like I said... I'm walking and figure I'll pick it up on my way. So I get up to the bright yellow ball and pick it up. On the bottom side of the ball it says in all caps "F*** YOU"

I. BUSTED. OUT. LAUGHING. Majorly caught me by surprise. But I don't know how it could have been towards me? I didn't do anything wrong?? But someone else in front of me surely would have picked it up, and that older gentleman drove RIGHT over that spot... so did HE leave it for ME? I wasn't even behind the guy pushing his pace or anything, I was almost a hole and a half behind him with nobody between us. So odd.

I got such a kick out of that, though. It actually made my day because it was so "out there."

Could have fallen out of his cart, or he didn't see it, or he knew it wasn't his ball so he didn't pick it up.

Perhaps that is the original owner's way of marking their ball. Then when they do lose one, they at least can have a chuckle.

I wish I had thought of it. Not so much an "F.Y." but something sinister.

Course I used to play had a hole with a creek that ran along side the fairway for a bit. On of my buddies, a notorious ball hawk, would always pull out his retriever as we started we started walking. He pulled a ball out once that had "Lessons? and a phone # printed on it.

That is pretty clever. Definitely left there for someone, IMO. Nobody hits a drive right smack in the middle of the fairway and loses it.

People are weird man. I watched an old hippie drop a golf ball from his pocket. It bounced loudly down the cart path to me, where I promptly fielded it on a hop, and returned it to him. He looked at me and said "that's not mine", even though it was a bizarre model of Titleist I've never seen anyone else use. My speaking to him really seemed to irritate him for some reason.

I have seen this happen before but they left the ball in the middle of the cart path after 18 on way back to clubhouse.

I have also seen where people will get hit into and if the ball lands close enough to them they will turn around and it hit right back at the guy on the tee box.

Lol I don't think I'd ever hit back into them (even though I would really, really want to) but I'm thinking of carrying in by bag a PVC pipe cutter and if it ever happens to me I'll cut their ball in half and put both halves back.

It would be kind of ridiculous to carry it around though... for the extremely off chance someone did this to me lol.
