My wife and I were out walking the dogs in the snow this morning (we don't get a lot around these parts, despite living in Canada) and I dropped the hint of a gift certificate to Modern Golf for a full bag fitting....she seemed curious, so here's hoping! http://moderngolf.ca/

Aren't  you glad that you joined the rest of the country in our miserable December? lol.  We have had the absolute worst month for cold and snow here in Fredericton. Then one day ,today, the temp  rises up above zero to 5 and puts a nice glaze on everything, Sheesh !  Have a great Christmas.  I know you guys on Vancouver island will be back at it come the new years.

It is a bitter cold 54 in San Antonio today.  But should be in the low 70's Christmas Eve & Christmas day.

All I want for Christmas is consistent ball striking.  Please Santa, I have been very good (except for my scores, they are pretty bad)

1. I want some fleece lined ski pants, or something similar, to play or hit balls in the cold. Not anything real bulky, I don't want to look like I am wearing a diaper under my pants... If anybody has any ideas, where to get this, that is #1 on my Christmas golf list.

2. A couple of truly free afternoons from my duties at home, so I can just relax and play 18 (I never have enough time to play 18)

3. More Volvik Vivids (Green)

Take  look at wader pants. Kept me warm in 33 degree water under a pair of waders .

Picked up an old Ping Cushin Putter at 2nd Swing the same length as the one I purchased 40 years ago. Stripped off the grips on both of them, swingweighted them both. Added a few grams of weight down the shaft of the recent purchase to make them identical. Ordered a couple of matching putter grips and will install them when they get here. One for the current bag here at home and one for the bag at the lake. Plan to go up later in the week so I'm hoping they arrive this afternoon or tomorrow.

I already got my Mizuno MP 67's a lil earlier in the year so I am asking Santa for some Mizuno wedges.  I think a 52 & 58 will do.  Looking to find some quality older ones.  I dont really like the 2 or 3 new models out this year, the MP T5, S5 or T7.  What is with the anodized blue this year???

Looking for MP T or MP T11 or MP T12.

Hope everyone had a Happy Holiday and got what they wanted.

I woke to find some nice Mizuno MPR-12 wedges under the tree.  A 52 & a 58, just what I wanted!  Awesome shape.  Really clean, good groves, no dings and brand new grips on them!  Happy happy, joy joy!!  I wonder if I can get to try them before the year ends???

Irons: Miura MC 102's 3 - PW & Mizuno MP 67's 3 - W

Dear Golf Gods

if you would grant these few wishes, I promise that I will never curse you again. Here goes:

1. A swing from the inside that is straight and long with just a little bit of draw for extra roll. If a new driver is needed to achieve that result off the tee, I will make that sacrifice too.

2. After smashing the tee shot straight down the fairway, please grant me GIR on three out of four occasions, with the occasional "on in two" par 5.

3. A putter that never three putts.

4. A new push cart so that my golf buddies stop laughing at me for dragging around my "collapsible" cart.

If you can give me none of the above, i will be happy with good health and a loving family that will allow me to indulge in my golf craziness 365 days out of the year. (Of course, failure to give me wishes 1-3 means that I reserve the right to tell you guys to put the OBs, worm-burners, bladed sand shots and four putts where the don't shine!)

happy new year!

    • Played 9 yesterday at Rowley Country Club. Played a scramble format with my brother as my teammate and shot a 40 together. Wasn't good enough to beat my friends but had a great time. Had a decent few shots highlighted by a 174 yard 4 iron to 8 feet. Missed the birdie of course lol. 18 at Pease today.
    • Some great stories here. I'm more inclined to remember good wedge or iron shots than putts. Here's a few that stand out in recent memory.  #17 at Elizabeth Manor (my home course): Last year at Schaubach Cup. It is the toughest par 4 on the course. Long, uphill, OB on both sides, a large bunker guarding majority of front, another lining the right and a steep fall off on the back. Par is always a great score here. Needed a two putt to go in to flight playoffs. Good drive and a decent 7 iron put me on the green but left a long meandering 45 feet carrom putt with green rolled out to 12 on stimp. All but guaranteed a 3 putt for anyone who knows my poor distance control. This one felt good right from the second I walked up. Saw the six-ish break, and executed almost perfect speed and line for the best tap-in I've ever had. We made the playoffs and lost on the second hole eventually but damn that putt felt good! #14 at EM:  North-South (Ryder cup knock off with our sister course Williamsburg GC). This was one of those 30 footers where you putt up a ridge and let it fall off. Higher you hit, more it breaks. Anyway, read both line and speed perfectly aaaannndd executed to drop it from the side door. Demoralized the opponents and soon after shut the door on them the next hole. They had a chance until then. I had felt like I had turned the corner on match play prowess earlier last year.  #17 Stoneliegh, Round Hill This one was with @DaveP043. A 25 footer from a high shelf to a low shelf, where the putt required to be placed just at the right pace up to the precipice of the upper shelf for it takes the slope to anywhere close to the hole. Had been putting decent all day on fairly difficult greens. Dave gave me a good line and spot to nudge it up to. I took and executed for a birdie! Made it even sweeter since I had just birdied #16. #5 at the 6-hole Par-3 course at Belmont, Richmond: Was having a bit of fun with @iacas. Had a match going with him for a soda. Had to make par from 5 feet to tie him going into the 6th and final hole. The greens had heavy aeration holes so it wasn't exactly a skill test. Anyway, I pushed a nervy stroke for the ball to rim out half an inch away from the hole. On most normal the ball stays out, but lo and behold the large aeration hole cut on the edge of the hole comes to my aid and tilts the ball back in the hole!  I don't know what was more satisfying, the putt or the look of annoyance/disgust on @iacas's face at the ensuing run off celebratory dance. 😂. He managed to save face by beating me by a stroke on the last hole but man that was a fun day!
    • Its not. They are just giving an example in a situation say if cant reach it. Example, You have 230 to the center of the green, you cant hit a club you have that far, so you whip out a 3/5 wood or whatever, but you have to hit it soft because there is trouble in front of the green, a bunker or water. A full swing would land you in the trouble. You want to lay up as close to the green as you can. So you aren't hitting a full shot with that club so for distance tracking you can make that shot a provisional and it wont affect the distance stats.
