I have a pretty bad slice due to not sliding my hips over to the left at the start of my downswing, keeping the weight central/slightly right causes me a pretty bad out to in swing path resulting in either a shank or a slice.

”just keep aiming left to the deep rough and hope you slice it onto the fairway”

luckily ive had lessons now and I’m working on lower body/hips starting my downswing.

Put a string around you neck attached to fishhooks on your testicles to keep your head down! I got the point.

I totally agree. I had a stroke three years ago and completely had to relearn the game. I immersed myself into golf books and videos and now am a much better player than before the stroke.

"Just let your hands drop from the top of the back swing"

Nothing screwed me up more than this, primarily because when I tried that my hands ended up way behind me forcing a pronounced in to out swing and years of hooking/drawing.  I didn't realize how bad this was until an instructor with a video camera (long before the days of cell phones) showed me on film.

My suggestions didn’t come from clubhouse pros, but rather other members. I know they were only trying to help, but the confusion it caused was absolutely devastating.

"Accelerate the putter through the ball."

Years later, I'm still struggling with distance control, due at least in part to that being my first putting lesson ever (with none to follow for a good seven years).

"Take up golf, its great for stress relief" :-P

Like others i still get a lot of "keep your head down" or "dont move your head". People need to stop giving this "advice".

Also hate the old "just hit the ball, walk to it and hit it again. Its EASY!" no its not its hard so stop talking crap.
