Tiger's 2017 Season

  1. 1. How will Tiger fare this season (assuming he remains healthy)?

    • Awful. He will miss a lot of cuts. He might not even make it through the whole season.
      23
    • Not great. He'll make a few cuts but nothing more.
      9
    • So-so. He might see the weekend more often than not, but nothing better than perhaps a couple of Top 20s.
      11
    • Not Bad. He makes many cuts, and even contends a little early on in the week but usually fades. No wins, but maybe a couple of Top 10s.
      21
    • Good. He shows flashes of his former self on the weekend often, and he contends several times. Maybe even a couple of Top 5 finishes.
      23
    • Really good. He plays well often, and he breaks through with many top finishes and even a win.
      15
    • Great. He contends more often than not, gets at least a win, and even contends at the majors.
      4
    • Superb. He makes a return to the old Tiger. Wins multiple times, one of them even being a major.

I can't speak for Perez but I'd probably be a little... bitter?... maybe?... I mean, tiger woods laying on his couch gets more air time and discussion than people actively winning tournaments.  And when you consider how long he's been out of action, more than one guy has to be thinking "hey, we're over here... Ya know...golfing"

How about those guys just shut up and be thankful for the ton of money Tiger made them the past twenty years? :-P

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.

Pat Perez seems super bitter/jealous. Of course they are going to talk about Tiger no matter what is going on given how big of an impact he has had on the game. They would do the same thing if MJ said he was going to return to basketball.

Touche, you can't shut up and express your opinion at the same time.  However, you can be thankful to Tiger and frustrated at the media at the same time.

Maybe it's me... if there's nothing to talk about (e.g., a week after Tiger's last public statement) then move on.

Nah I think the media just cherry picked part of the podcast of the radio show. Perez was praising him and giving him credit for making the game huge. He also stated the obvious about Tiger not even being close to playing at a PGA level. The truth hurts sometimes.

Trollin' is the life

I read Perez said that after praising him. It was taken out of context. As far as his nerve damage there is a thing called google. I quote, "'It just depends on how the nerve heals and how it settles." -Tiger Woods

So there IS nerve damage plus all the knee surgeries. How does this happen in a non contact sport?

The article is from 2015.

How does it happen in a non-contact sport? Because twisting your back a few million times is bound to cause some issues.

What has he done to make that article obsolete? Why don't ALL golfers get these injuries if it's just repetition? There is a Senior Tour and these guys played as much or more than Tiger.

Uh, had surgery, recovered, and rehabilitated his injury.

Many do.

Many of them did not. You've read about Tiger's practice routine, right?

Plus, again, I didn't say everyone would be injured. But the golf swing is not a natural motion. Many players get injured doing it.

Since that article you pointed out he has has MORE injuries and missed more tournaments. From 2017.

Tiger Woods injury: Updates on Golf Star's Back and Return Bleacher Report

"

Back Injuries Continue to Plague Woods

The 14-time major champion has been mired in injuries in recent seasons. Chronic back problems limited him to just 20 combined events during the last three years, with nearly all of them featuring him in significant pain. He played in only one event last season, a December trip to the Hero World Challenge.

Woods hasn't been relevant in more than two years, through no fault of his own. Put simply, his body is breaking down, and we're now nearly eight years removed from his last major win.

Golf is a non-contact sport you can play well into your late 40s at a high level, but Woods has always pushed his body to the limit. Perhaps his years of weight training and bulking up, once seen as revolutionary, are coming back to haunt him.

Either way, this isn't what fans wanted for Woods' twilight.

I don't understand why you're continuing on with this. You said he had "nerve damage." I said that he had nerve damage (and the resulting pain) in 2015, but there's been nothing about "nerve damage" post-2015 (except for the general fact that nerves repair slowly). It's not like he has new or worsened "nerve damage."

He's been out of commission (recovering) and then recently was stiff and had back spasms, and specifically denied having "nerve pain."

Now, if you want to call him a liar, that's one thing, but you're just citing old sources and using the words "nerve damage."

We're all aware of the fact that he's out right now. But I'm just trying to be precise with what the causes are. "Nerve damage" is unlikely to be the reason.

Believe what you want. Facts seem to be just a distraction. Sorry I even replied. There can be no real intelligent discussion about Tiger Woods. Sad but true.

I believe the information presented unless given a reason to believe differently.

You've presented nothing recent that talks about "nerve damage."

It's that simple. Find something, and I'll give it the weight it deserves.

My question is would he have pulled out of Dubai if he had shot 65 day 1?

If he couldn't play because of back spasms… I'd say yeah, he would have.

Here's another thought.  Strengthening can be taken too far.  When it was learned what Tiger was doing many "experts" were stating how his frame would not be able to handle the power he could generate.  Looks like they were right.

This goes well with some of the talk on golf forums way back, when Woods at his best. A lot talk back then was that his body, specifically his back, and knees would not hold up for the long term. That the type of swing he had was putting too much stress on those areas. A lot folks were blaming Butch Harmon's tuition, and a "win now" attitude. Of course there were also quite a few folks, who did not agree with that opinion back then too. None the less. Here we are.
