Best Shot of the Week

Par 5. Had to lay up on second shot but needed at least 200 yards to clear trees to the hole. Trees and water all the way down the right. Trees down the left. I hit a 230 yard 3 wood dead straight as an arrow and split the fairway. 197 par 3 with the pin in the back. Water on the right. Hit a 4 hybrid dead straight at the pin to within 2 feet. Made the putt.

Par 5, second shot.   225yds to the center of a green that slopes downhill front to back.  Pin was in the back.   Hit a 3 hybrid to the center and it trickled down to 2ft for an eagle.    Not only my best shot of the week but my best shot ever...

Here's the scenario. Par 5. I drove the ball right of the fairway and hit a tree( 1). I'm under the tree, but there are more trees in the way. The second shot I grab my 5 wood for a high draw around the trees, but hit a low draw and hit two more trees (2,3). I'm 215 out and there's another tree in my way. Grab my trusty 5 wood again for the same high draw over the trees but hit a low draw and hit another tree (4). I'm 155 out but there's still one more tree to clear. I grab my 6 iron to go over (or through) the branches but I just hit the branches of the tree (5). However, I didn't take to much off the ball and it lands 15 feet from the pin and I make the putt for par. So, I hit a tree on my first 4 shots on a hole. Five trees total and still make par. Not exactly how I planned on playing the hole.

Hit a decent 3 wood off the tee which left me 120 to the pin, hit a perfect sand wedge that pitched 2 inches right of the hole and spun back about 10 yards.... From which I 3 putted for bogey :-(

How much distance did you get with that 3 wood off the tee?

best/worst shot of the week....

I was at a work event and spent last TUE night at a casino.  I was with co-workers sitting at the bar when a group of ladies sat to my left and bought me a shot so I gladly accepted.

It was a weak girly shot called "Nipple" something or other and the shot tasted like coffee....... anyway, it was weak, but I swallow down the windpipe and nearly choked to death anyway.....LOL   I was already pretty buzzed and apparently failed.  Everybody had a good laugh at my expense!!

Drumm Farm Golf Club:  #6 par3

The pin was tucked in the back left corner of the green behind the bunker.   227yds into a 10mph breeze and I hit 3-wood so far off on the toe that it squirted sideways 70yds left of the green into deep prairie grass.    I take my penalty and re-tee........hit my third shot to 12 feet and make the putt.................a ho-hum bogey!  One hell of a bogey!!

From saturday on a par 5 had a 250 yard second shot that I left about 60 yards short and left in front of a bunker. Hit a nice high 56 degree that landed just on the edge of the green and rolled up about 5 inches from the whole and I got myself a nice birdie. One of the best shots of my life!

Hole no3 at Club Campestre el Copal (Mexico City) is probably the most iconic hole of a 9 hole course which is a favorite for city golfers, as it is the closest to the City center, and a nicely challenging and fun course. It's a par 5 running narrow between trees, with a dogleg to the right at 250 yards from the tee and a further 300 yards thereafter, with fairway trees and a bunker protecting the hole. On my second round, under pressure from the twosome finishing at no2 who had just let me through, I sliced my drive into the woods just after the dogleg. Played a 5 iron shot laterally back to the fairway and then wholloped a 250 yard 3 Hybrid over the trees, bunker, landing straight onto the green and making a 2 yard forward bounce. Still had about 15 feet to go, I missed the first put and landed a relatively "easy" par, which for me is not that frequent (i hit +21 on the day which is about average, I am longer than I am accurate!).

On the first round, I would have picked my drive on the same hole. I'm hitting a DTG Felon Illegal driver (for fun) and managed to bang that one about 340 yards with downhill slope. I had really not anticipated the distance and ended up in the trees beyond the dogleg about 50 yards beyond my target landing area, but the shot was just beautiful, if had that freakish double-acceleration (that somebody is going to have to explain to me scientifically some day), the whizzing sound of speed playing music on the shaft, the trajectory was just the perfect height, dead straight in line with my aim, not too much backspin... The kind of shot you can hit 100 times and not mind having to hit the next one from an uncomfortable position under the trees.

I'm playing tomorrow and Sunday but so far this week my best (more luck then anything) shot came on a par 5. I was about 130 yards out from a green that was elevated with a hill in front with a bunker. I hit a full pitching wedge and I hit it thin right into the bunker and it rolled right up about 4 feet from the pin and I ended up with a birdie. Not my prettiest shot but it worked out just fine.

330 yard par 4 severely up hill. I was by myself and got to the tee when the 2-ball ahead of me just tee'd off and looked like they're looking for one of their ball so they waved me through. Quickly teed up and slam the driver 280yd down the fairway, about 100yd past one of the guy's drive xD. I then up and down for birdie like a pro while they were watching. Felt so good partly because it was a a good everything hole (birdie is RARE for me) but MOSTLY because I didn't fail when I had an audience. Would be a bit embarrassing if I sliced it into the woods after they waved me through hah hah.

2H on a wide open line 235 to the hole.

Just off the green on the right near corner.

(Up and down for the birdie)

that was Saturday (local) - and this morning I was shoveling about a foot of snow off the driveway.....

I had my first 2015 good look at an eagle!   I failed to convert, but that's besides the point!  The course is playing much longer than the yardage because the fairways are giving no roll.   On a 500yd par5, I had 218yds to the pin which is an accomplishment in itself for how short I am hitting the ball this season thus far!!!   I hit an equally pretty high soft 5-wood to 10ft.   I missed the eagle putt, but was thrilled to hit 2 great long shots back to back...........LOL.

Actually, I would have to say that in my round today there were two equally impressive shots of the week. The funny part is that they were both so similar that it could qualify as one shot (and it's clone). On hole #3 at River Forest, a par 3, I hit a 6 iron to 18 inches for a kick-in birdie. Then on #17, another par three, I hit a 7 iron to 18 inches. One putt and another birdie.

Funny thing about my round today, on the other par 3's (#8 and #13), I hit iron shots that were 15 and 10 feet from the hole. I didn't cash in on the birdie putts, but I did make par. So, I was two under on the par 3 holes today.  I've been golfing 50+ years, and I can't remember ever being two under par on the par three holes.

I love birdies!

Worst round since Tuesday and before that 5 months or so, but. . .I made a 6i par 5 final approach slightly uphill from 180 yards in 2"-3" rough and dropped the ball 5 feet from the pin this morning. It was the best shot I ever made on an approach from 180 yards.

The second worst shot this week was the 3W I topped to put me 180 yards from the pin. . .

Pitched in for birdie from 42 yards on a hole otherwise marred by sloppy golf. Crazy thing was I had easy birdie putts from 5-6 feet that I missed later in the round. Could have used them with 2 doubles on the front. Seems to be my new style of play, stuff it or duff it.

Dave :-)

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
