I'd like to try to earn this award next month, so I'm going to try to start posting every day this month.

Welcome!

2/11: 15 minutes taking DTL video in foyer of slow downswing hitting a squishy golf ball. Checked right elbow, left wrist, steepness at A5, and club position at A6. Some success in changing picture even if lots of shanks.

2/11: About 15 minutes with my 56 degree wedge today in the front yard. Spent about two minutes with slow swings, thinking about steady head, good turn, and more up with the arms, just as a warm up. Then I just had fun for 15 minutes or so picking a target and a shot shape and just trying to hit that shot.

I almost forgot to post. I did some swings in the backyard before going to see 50 Shades movie with the wife. Don't judge.

2/11: Alignment checks. I assumed an address position, and with the help of a couple of club shafts, made sure that my feet, legs, hips, chest, and shoders are all aligned with the target.

2/11/17 - Today was back to the wall drill to increase flexibility. I may be using that for the next few days while I'm holed up in a hotel.

2/12-putting in basement. Followed with some shoulder turn work and some float load feels with partial swings. My basement is not big enough for full swings.

So, today I've just been doing some slow mirror work again working on keeping my posture while turning my hips and shoulders for the backswing, and then working on feeling like my hips open after my arms pass my right hip, this is to prevent me getting stuck, with my driver especially. Sometimes my hips turn before my arms swing and theres no chance in hitting it straight because my arms are just too far behind. I also want to feel like when my hips are turning on the downswing, my weight transfers to my left heel, this is mainly for me to get weight forward, but since I started doing it after my lesson it has promoted an inside path. Today I'm also going to the range to work on driver, 3 wood and my 7i-56* wedge, and putting. I'm going to be keeping track of where every miss is and using the tee drill to make sure I swing up with driver as I have a tendency to hit very steep on it. I've actually had drives the have been sub-200 yards because they ride the ground so low. I want to fix this.

"Played" 18 today. I am +24 sitting here on the 18th tee. Thankfully I birdied 17. That might keep me from a 3 digit score.

2/11 - pitch swings of varying lengths.

Since my first time watching the pitch video, I've grown a lot more comfortable with the motion itself, but learning my distance control is the challenge

2/12 - ditto; soooooo wanted to play today with the 75* weather, but family activities took priority. Some day soon, some day soon...

2/11: Had no time to do any practice in daylight, so I spent ten minutes practicing the takeaway of my backswing. It feels like I'm starting the club on an extreme out-to-in path now, but I can tell by having a look at my own reflection that it isn't really the case.

2/12: Played 18 today after the college tournament that's been going on this weekend. I spent a few minutes on the range beginning the work on my shot zones (I got my copy of LSW yesterday!! :ninja::dance:)... I had an awesome plan to work out the zones for full swing and 3/4 shots, but ended up spending most of the time before my round watching the tournament. :-)

So, you know, golf is hard. I shot a 93 (49/44) with 42 putts (25 on the front). :-O:cry:On the other hand, I had 42 putts and still managed a 93. So, weirdly content. :content:

In fact, my approach game was the best it's ever been, hands down. I had 7 GIRs and 5 nGIRs, which is around my upper limits in the past, but...I hit the green or ended up within 10 yards of it on 16 of 18 approach shots outside of 75 yards today. I was definitely hitting my irons better than I have been lately, but there's no doubt that just the idea of thinking thinking of my shot's landing "spot" as a tilted oval is a game changer. Rather than a point/small circle or horizontal line (I've always aimed a little left to account for my miss right but not too far in case I pull it, but that's about it) -- I can pick out my target, aim and setup properly as usual, think about a good swing and the shot that I want, make the best swing that I can... and then pretty much not worry about what happens next.

I have no doubt that today should have been a ~100 day, but it wasn't. Ended up +3 on the last 6 holes with 4 pars (par 3s and par 5s).

By the same token, today could have been an 85 day, but it wasn't. So, shot zones and finally making up my mind on just what the hell kind of shot I want to hit with my driver are definitely on the practice "to-do" list now (and 3 foot putts :8)).

2/12/2017 - I spent much of the day on an airplane or at an airport.  Because of that, I did a lot of re-reading of LSW.  I got to the hotel and did about 10 minutes worth of the wall drill.

    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
