When I call the course as a single they usually just tell me to show up at a certain time of day (usually closer to twilight time) and they will work me in.  When I look on golfnow or like sites they show several tee times bookable for 1 person prior to the time the course told me to come.  What would happen if I book that single slot on GolfNow?  Would the course just tell me I'm SOL since I'm a single or do they have to honor my time booked through the 3rd party site?  Obviously they will try to pair me up which is fine. I don't expect to play as a single.

Well, if you booked on-line for an earlier time as a single, then you would have a reservation for that time and the course would most likely honor it.

They are probably giving you a later time verbally as they are more confident there would be room at that particular hour.

Either way, you will be fine.

I'd agree, if you've made your time through GolfNow, the course should honor it.  I'd bet that these single times are those where GolfNow has already made a booking for a threesome, and they're filling the last available spot.

Maybe someone can tell me, are GolfNow (and others) times dedicated to GolfNow by the course, or are the reservation systems synced up somehow?

The times I'm seeing on GolfNow are 1-4 bookings so looks like no one is currently booked st all. I'm also curious about the systems being synced?

It may depend on the POS the course runs on.  As far as my course, GolfNow only had access to book the tee times agreed upon in the contract, unless it was blacked out due to a tournament or something.  So they would import the names and such to our tee sheet when someone reserves that time.

I would think they would have to let you out if you were able to successfully book the time online.  It must be the case that the GolfNow-type systems sync with whatever booking system the course uses or it would be a logistical or monetary disaster. The course wouldn't be able to book times dedicated to GolfNow and would leave a bunch of unsold tee times out there.

In my experience if I call and let them know when I'd like to get out, they'll tell me if they're full around that time or if they are able to work me in. Sometimes they say to come by later but I don't usually check online. Maybe just make sure to specify that you don't mind joining another group if that's an option?

Can you book those same times directly if GolfNow hasn't notified you?

Yes, but GolfNow is guaranteed their allotted tee times per day anyway, unless the whole course is closed down.  When this happens, the system allows GolfNow to book the very next tee time available.

I only did this one time. It was a Hot Deal on one of the nicer public courses in the area. I was first on it and booked as a single. The course paired me up with a three-some. No idea if they went through GN or the course did it themselves.

The guys I joined were surprised by it, but they were cool and it turned out ok that time.

Same thing happened to me. I booked a hot deal as a single and when I got to the course the cashier informed me that 2 other guys had booked the same time so we'd be going out as a threesome. Everything was on his computer, so I'm guessing systems are synced up.

I introduced myself at the first tee and began wondering what I'd gotten myself into. We were playing one set of tees further than what I am used to there. Plus, one of the guys was "normal" sized but his buddy was GI-NORMOUS! He looked like the Michelin Man! Seriously, he had to go between 350 and 400! Then Mr. Michelin proceeds to nearly drive the first green, a 400 yard par 4! Jesus, could that guy hit a golf ball!

It was kind of a daunting round for me, but they were nice guys and we had fun.

Before I retired and joined a club, I used Golf Now quite a bit.  I expected to be paired with other players when I booked a tee time as a single.   Even when we booked a tee time as a threesome, I expected to be joined by a single.  That didn't always happen but I expected it.  Only once did I run into somebody that made golf not fun.

At many of the courses around its difficult to get someone to answer the phone at the pro shops.   Everything is booked through GN or another similar site.  Even when I left my phone in the cart I tried calling back without success. Drove back and got it.

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
