My lead foot will often spin as my body rotates after contact. I don't see a lot of good players doing this.

1. Should it be a concern since it occurs after contact?

2. Is it an indication that too much weight is still back?

3. Can it be an indication of swinging too hard?

This is meant as a general topic more than a personal "what am I doing wrong" sort of discussion.

Patrick Reed does it, but yeah, not too common amongst good players.

Just spitballing here but - Could it be just that your lead foot is not rotated enough towards the target at address?

I'm pretty sure it's opened enough towards the target. I keep both feet pointed outwards. Still, it might be worth a try to open it up a little more.

Edit: I looked at my videos after replying and you might be right @Killa. My lead foot does not look to be as open as I thought.

My first thought as well.  So does Bubba.

If you can hit the ball like Bubba or Reed, you can spin your foot you want. Lol.

I hate them both (bit of an overstatement), but you can't question their ability that drive the golf ball.

I don't hate either of them, but I'm not a fan.  Never noticed they spin. I'm surprised that Reed does it because he has that abbreviated followthrough.

I suppose it's not a big deal if it's happening after impact.

Even if it did nothing for your distance, executing a pirouette after every shot might take your opponents out of their game. I say you bust it out during the Newport Cup.

I'd concede the first hole, if Drew does the ballerina thing. With advance notice, so I can post it.

With driver, more good players than you think. With these guys it's just a reaction to the rotation, left side "stretching", left leg extending and pressure going into the left heel .

Thanks for posting those. I need to work on my observation skills. Looking at videos this morning - even with iron swings - there is some outward rotation on the heel from players like Els and Woods. Others, like Adam Scott, seem to keep the outside of the foot locked more in place and roll over a bit on their ankle.

I'm going to worry more important things at this point.

I think it's a good topic/question to bring up, not something that's discussed that much. Like I said, it's more of a reaction to other stuff happening, it's after impact but good to know it's not a bad things if it happens.

I don't see it as an issue. I think your reasoning is fight on. It's after impact and other players do it. If you're striking it well just go with it.

I agree with what you and others have suggested. And when I'm not striking the ball well, it's likely due to something other than that.

I'll assume it's similar for others, but when I take a swing, I can only be aware of things that are going on before impact and after. What's going on between the last part of my downswing and just after contact is a blur. Since video isn't always an option, that "before and after" is all the information available which might indicate how well the priority piece has been executed.

If video has shown anything about my swing this past year, it's that good results can come from poor mechanics and what I felt happened - good or bad - often did not. Guess I'm just looking for other indicators.
