I was going to make an appointment to get fit for new irons. Then clubs I was going to demo are Titleist ap1,  Mizuno 900 forged and hot metal, Callaway apex .  Now that Titleist has announced the new 718 I'm thinking about waiting and adding the ap3. Should I add any other clubs to the mix, wait for the 718's. How long before the shops have demo's?

If you have lots of fun money to spend, you could wait for the 718s.

Otherwise, you could try current models, or models that are about a year old and going on clearance.

I went to a Titleist demo day in June, and got some quality time with different iron models. AP1 felt quite different depending upon what shaft was in the head, as did the AP2 and the CB

Get a free Titleist Thursdays fitting and try out different head and shaft combinations. (Shaft is half the club!)

The two Mizuno models felt quite good when I hit them at the golf expo in February. And, I play primarily Callaway. Many golfers like the straight-up Apex irons better than the Apex Pro (either year).

Focus, connect and follow through!

Buy used, you are a 15 handicap. The supposed new technology developed in 8 months from the older Titleist models won't help you - go on ebay and get the 716s. spend the money saved on your kids, you are aren't breaking 80 anytime soon.

He'll probably be gone soon enough, either out of boredom (preferred) or because he's been forced to go for violating the rules.

@tosob, if you want to wait for the all new AP3, go for it. I believe it's a fall release for those so it's not too far away.

From the little bit I've read from the other posters and the forums, the AP3 is a club more or less marketed at your skill level. From what I've read it's a cross between an AP1 and AP2.

So am I, but I only shot 84, and it was yesterday not today.

I think whatever decision you make will be the right one for this.

I think in order to get the best club for you, you should be brand agnostic. Find a fitter you trust explicitly and let them do their job.

    • Feel like you are left side dominant. Keep the back of your glove running through impact. Keeps leading edge down without digging. You will pick them clean with some zip if the grass is nice and generally acceptable results off anything less than ideal. Works with both hingy or dead hand pitches and chips.
    • Day 52 (30 Apr 26) - Had planned a solo round, got invited to be part of trio that included a fmr mini tour pro.  Was fun playing back a set of tees and having to stay in my game plan. Both were very engaging and encouraging in the round.  A good day in working through and making smarter shot choices.
    • Day 576 - 2026-04-30 Put my playlist on and slowed down a little as things were meh. Mostly got to an exaggerated P6 and hit from there.
    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
