In the rah rah of social media there are a number of posts of the girls in various red, white and blue garb. To me, it is one thing to be proud to play for your country but possibly poor taste in throwing on social media in the midst of other players who were not playing or "not picked." A format based on one part performance and one part popularity, (see Paula Creamer) it seems like a more modest reaction is in order. Maybe I just think these "look what I'm doing and click the like button to verify my existence" stuff annoying. Feel free to post anything to agree with me and nay says can just be quiet....:-D

In this day and age anything is fair game for social media!

I can't see any reason why it's not acceptable. Unless they specifically call out someone that didn't get picked to "rub it in their face" then why shouldn't they post about it?

They should be proud to have been selected, and proud to represent their country.  I have no problem with a player publicly expressing their enthusiasm unless they specifically call out those who aren't on the team.  (as @Jeremie Boop already said).  I may just be an old crotchety bastard, but I can't understand why anyone would interpret someone's outward jubilation at an accomplishment as being disrespectful to anyone else.

This.

Rickie Fowler talks about how proud he was to play for America in the Olympics all the time, even so much as to have an Olympic Tattoo on his forearm.  This does not mean he's rubbing it in the face of those not selected to the team, just means he is honored to represent.   Same thing with Patrick Reed wearing his Ryder Cup USA pants at the US Open this year.

You can express your excitement for doing something without that expression being an implicit "suck it" to those who aren't.  If the golfers not playing in the Solheim Cup can't be happy (or if not happy, at least indifferent) for their peers who were chosen, that is their problem.

It borders the suck it part.

I see nothing wrong or disrespectful in any of that.  Its some young (and wealthy) women having fun, while they're showing their enthusiasm.

If I was given the chance to represent my country in a golf tournament, I can't imagine I'd wear any color other than red, white, or blue for about a year straight.

How in the world could it be considered in poor taste to be enthusiastically proud of being chosen to represent your country?

If anyone's upset, give 'em a participation trophy and let 'em move on.

Geeeeesh....

It's not. It was appearing more narcissistic vs. patriotic.

That seems reasonably accurate.  I'm not a follower of the twitter-verse, but I have a feeling that lots of these young women love the attention they get from the various online postings.  Lots of ALL young women, and men, love getting that attention.  They're simply using the Solheim Cup as a focus for their posting, but I believe they'd be posting something anyway.  In fact, if they weren't focusing on the Solheim Cup right now I'd be absolutely astounded.

Now you get what I am saying and I agree. I'm not surprised that they are posting about it.

Proud is less self fortifying than this.

Not a bit of what I wrote suggests that they're not proud, or that they're disrespecting anyone at all.  Just to return full circle to the original post.

Not to me.

Heck, if anything I'd say that if any of the players who didn't make the team are offended and are vocal about it,  then it's they who're somehow trying to deflect attention from the successful athletes in a pathetic attempt to gain some attention to themselves.  Sour grapes.  But some people spend an awful lot of time trying to find a reason to be offended by what others do, when it has nothing to do with them.
