green_ae5cef5d-0689-454d-8e15-f8c5f592c3Using the coupon code http://tts.aftershokz.com/ from Daring Fireball's podcast, I tried out the Trekz Titanium.

https://aftershokz.com/ collections/wireless/products/trekz-titanium

They're bone conduction headphones. The "speakers" sit in front of your ear and conduct the sound through the bones to your inner ear rather than through your ear canal.

I got them last night. I charged them this morning. And then I tried them out.

At low volumes, they sounded tinny and thin. The sound was poor. At higher volumes, they sounded like cheap speakers that you turned up too high. I found that if I pushed them against my temples more, the sound was better, but that's not how they rest naturally.

All told, these things sounded like $7 headphones.

I filed a warranty claim and asked for a refund only a few hours after I first opened up the packaging.

Very disappointed.

I'm surprised they are in business. Sound doesn't move through bones like it does through the ear drums.

It still gets to your ear. You still hear it. If you hold it just right it sounds fine. Not great.

That's a bummer. I hear their ads all the time on ATP. I never really considered buying them but they did seem interesting.

Just do it. The other day I saw they're still a 2-3 week wait from Apple, but some Best Buys have them.

Well this is a good piece of information... I was thinking of buying a pair of those AfterShokz.

Thanks for the review.. you saved me around 100 bucks.

I was wearing the "hardwired" ear buds while doing yard work but, was always getting them tangled up on something and yanking them out of my ears. What made it worst was the fact that I wear hearing protection over them when using power equipment.

So, I bought a pair of Skull Candy Ink'd wireless thinking they would be the answer. Nope, I was wrong. They work well as long as you don't move. Once you start moving around they "skip" or momentarily lose connection making it very annoying. I thought it may have been my phone but, after setting the phone on the my deck and working no more the 15 feet away they still "skipped".

Don't bother wasting money on those.

It must be inherent with wireless because I also picked up a pair of Tzumi wireless at Home Depot for 20 bucks and they also "skipped".

I've used a set of the trekz for about a year.  I love them.  Nothing in or on my ear.  They don't like OTE headphones of course but for what they are I think they're great.  They're on my head right now, I use them all day at work for music and conf calls.  Just have to charge a lot but I can live with that

We'll have to disagree on the Trekz, but I'm glad that after eight years something drew you back in. How's your golf game? :-)

I read a lot.  Don't post though :D

Two kids under 4, not a lot of golf time.  So it sucks as usual

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
