I'm trying to decide which practice golf net to buy. I've been looking at the Sklz Quickstar and the Rukket Hack models. I intend to put it in my backyard. Has anyone had experience with either one or are using a golf net that they would recommend? Any input is highly appreciated.

Try a search, there's about 10,000 threads on this.  I'll post a link after my next meeting though.  (easy to build one - a blanket and something to hang it from works perfect.)

I tried a search and it came up zero results, which I thought could not be.

Search here isn't great because "net" is only three letters and thus not indexed (indexing starts with four-letter words).

I built mine from an 8x8 ebay net (~$35), shower curtain rings and 1" Schedule 40 PVC.  It's 7' tall and 8' wide.  Took about 15 minutes

Could you share some pics please? How do you secure it to the ground?

I bought the Rukket Haack Golf Net off Amazon this spring so I could start to get in 'golf shape' early. I really like it. It's easy to assemble/disassemble, the net is well made, the base is heavy enough that it can't tip over easily and the ball will roll back to you (I use it in my garage with a hitting mat).

don't secure it to the ground.  just make it long enough to lay at least 9-12 inches on the ground.  If you secure it, then it's tight, and then it has a greater chance of you punching a hole through it.  the 'net' (blanket/tarp) has to have some give - let it flop

this thread is good (I think I actually have a post where I link that thread to itself... :-P)- pictures, commercial net comments, DIY nets, links to good indoor mats, opinions on why indoor setups are good/bad/etc.  my home setup is on page 10 (pics lower on the page though I've added a blanket in front of the tarp since).  link to monster turf mats later too.

like this.  I've  modified it a little since then but you get the idea.  Might consider a soccer goal sort of design also.  The strongest of winds will blow it over but  not biggie.  10' sections of PVC at Lowe's was $3.50 and I cut them with a hacksaw

Same here.   I'd buy it again.

I think that's where I'm leaning. Mostly for use in my backyard. I've got a low basement ceiling (I'm only 5'7) so I don't think it will fit in my basement.

  • 1 month later...

I am getting the itch to acquire a net for my basement or garage. I want to take swings in the off season to both keep my game sharp and to relive stress. I have 8 foot ceilings in my basement, but I still hit the ceiling with my driver on the follow through, but the rest of the clubs are fine.

The pros to a basement net is that it is temperature controlled and can stay up year round. The garage gets quite cold in the winter, but it does have more room and would feel less cramped. I am exploring options for DIY nets or purchased nets. I am not sure which way to go yet, DIY does not appear to save much money and will compromise more of my time. I am leaning toward the Rukket net at the moment.

I also have heard good reports concerning the Rukknet. I have made several net frames out of PVC with a variety of designs. They are fairly easy to make, and hold up pretty good. If your garage has open rafters, easiest would be to suspend something from a pipe, ribar, e.t.c.  Some simply throw a heavy blanket over.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
