Will drone video swing footage be a thing in the future?

I have no bloody clue. Obviously the overhead view is what it's best at. Stabilization tech will get better. Models will get cheaper. What may happen is that they'll be used in a way we totally never expected. Maybe not on its own, but in conjunction w/some other tech. The only thing constant is change. We live in interesting golf times.

Well I'm no expert but that overhead view at that angle is probably not all that useful for instruction or anything.

Yeah, directly overhead might be more useful.

And at the same time, not all that useful. Consider your orthogonal or squares or whatever: what can you see overhead that you couldn't see from one of the other angles?

Maybe something in conjunction w/radar? Or something with broadcasts?

For TV coverage, commercials, etc.? Sure.

For instruction? Meh.

I can see a good TV commercial with that angle then the drone tries to follow the ball.  

I voted no.   Not a good angle for instruction.

Video is for the student mostly. Not the instructor (mostly). And DTL, FO are enough (mostly). So no. 

But for making fun videos of yourself? Hells yea! I made this with my friend a while back. 

 

I told him we should take the flag out for the putt, but he insisted it would look better. Oh well!

I disagree with your friend. The flag doesn't make the shot look better, it looks weird. It's like the people who made the movie don't actually play golf 

But the video is cool, though. Could add a whole new dimension to vlogs. We need to up the production for the next Newport Cup

Voted yes, but only for coolness factor.

Not sure it would be useful for swing analysis or not, though.

Imo overhead views can be helpful.

I don't see a whole lot of usefulness for instruction, but it definitely is a way to take great shots. The blimp is already gone, and drones will make a fine replacement. Limited use in windy conditions mayhap, but that's not too common, at least on the PGA Tour. The European Tour might struggle more.

A drone combined with Protracer can be fun.
