She hits it pretty good, but. . .worse than Barkley, maybe she's his partner?

I've actually met and played golf with a guy who WON the worst swing in America award, I think from Golf Digest.  I was at the country club, warming up for a round with my Father in Law, and I see this insane person on the range, I asked and was told, "don't laugh, don't say anything".   All the members had to go through the same, it was really funny and stifling at the same time.   Then it turns out he was in our group.   He was an old man at the time, probably dead by now.  Head strong guy, for sure.   Successful at some business, dressed like Doug Sanders.  Red sweater and matching shoes.

I suspect we all have that , or a similar swing in us, but are afraid to use it in public. :-O

If I tried that, I'd probably wind up in the ER with some stuff seriously wrong.

I've played with some members of my league that have really bad swings, I mean really ugly, but somehow score well, go figure.

Now let's see her hit an iron with that swing!

Thirty years ago I was pitted in the first round of my club's match play championship against old Doc Volmer.  Guy in his 60s, weighed about 120 - 130 lbs.  He was Barkley, except in his backswing: He could swing the club through the ball without hesitation, but his backswing was in three parts.  He'd get it back a few feet, then stop for a moment, gather his energy, then heft it up a little more, then stop again, then with one final mustering of effort, he'd get it to near parallel. Like it was some heavy thing, took him three tries.  Darndest thing ever.  He developed no momentum at all on the downswing, and even though he seemed to make maximum effort and finish on his tip toes, he never hit a drive over 175, 180.

Punch line is even though I was outdriving the guy 50+ yards (and I was no long knocker) he closed me out something like 5 and 4.  We finished up the 18 just because and when done tallied up his scorecard: 4 over for 18 holes, that old fellow didn't miss a single fairway and must've had 10 one putts!

I've learned never to judge by an ugly (or beautiful) swing.  A lot of ugly swings are awfully effective.

    • Day 309 - More of the same, grip/backswing/downswing rotation. This time with the Divot Board.
    • Day 50 - 2024-11-19 Hit about 20 balls focusing mostly on the backswing. That's going to be my November and December.
    • They need to do something to speed  up play. They could randomly  time  players. One  idea would  be  if a group gets  out  of  position they are disqualified. If its a group of  3 and  its  1 player playing like  molasses i can imagine an exciting interaction, lol
    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
