I've heard a lot about the Aerotech Steelfiber shafts, and got to hit a few shots with SF here and there. Not all golf shops carry them for fittings.

AeroSFi95.jpg.66505a91dae827984065da1532944d5e.jpg

Recently, a golf shop let me hit some used Ping i200 irons with SF 95 in S.flex. The Pings felt nice and smooth with the SFs. The Ping 7i with SF only carried about 135 yds., though, on most solid shots.

(I have hit the Ping i200 with AWT 2.0/R and gotten closer to 145 yds.) My current 7i carries about 145 yds. with the NS Pro.

With my 7i and Driver data, the SF charts recommend me more for SF.80, but I worry the shaft might feel feathery.

So, what are the fine points on the SF line? An SF.95 S.flex, even softstepped, might be a bit much. Is SF.95 R.flex iffy, or maybe R.flex soft-stepped?

Any advice on how the ball flies, are the SFs stiffer to flex, anything that might help. @boogielicious, @DocPartyany thoughts?

I have one in my Callaway Apex UT 18° driving iron. I have the Steelfiber i95 Xstiff shaft in it, and I really like it. It plays very stiff. It is a great shaft, in a couple more years I am looking to get an entire set of them.

Calling @MacDutch...

I've hit his i80's (R) and am looking at them for my new irons.  My understanding is that they tend to run a little firm for any given flex.

Shoot, I should know considering I live right next to the conpany. I have considered getting them for my srixon irons.  I do know quite a few people around here that wouldn’t play anything other than aerotech shafts.

My pro/boss has the I95 in a set of Miura cb irons.  I hit them a lit because I'm too lazy to bring in my own irons half the time.

I think they are true to flex, remind me more of sgeelbthan graphite.  Great shafts

I played the steelfiber i70’s regulars in my Mizuno blades for two years and liked them. But missed some distance also. They were a bit more firm then regular. Now I play light regular graphite shafts in my RSi irons and they play a club longer. Hit 140-145 with my i7. That was 130-135.

Part of the difference might be the loft is not the same. But I hit the RSi’s also way higher.

I can get tendonitis in my elbows so my fitter put me in Steel Fiber I95S.  I have them in a set of Callaway CF16 irons and Ping I200 irons.  I can't speak to distance gained or lost.

I hit the Ping I200 7 iron 155 consistently.

I hit the Callaway CF17 7 iron 165-175.

The Ping 7 iron is lofted like a Callaway 7-1/2 iron so apples to apples I think they go the same distance.

I also had  them put in my Callaway Apex Hybrids, he didn't think that was necessary but I figured consistency couldn't hurt.

I like the shaft, my tendonitis has not come back for what that is worth.
