Day 63 - Played 9. Overall a pretty meh round. Pretty good off the box, second shots weren’t good, chipping was good, putting wasn’t. Oh well, 4 rounds in the mountains over the next 3 days, should be fun!

Day 37.  I had a good 90 minute or so practice session this morning.  First, the range, priority piece as always, but now I got to see ball flight.  It was mostly good.  I focused my approach shot practice primarily on the 150-175 yard range because GG tells me that's where I lose the plurality of my SGA[1].  I also hit a good number of drives.  My bad ones felt better than my bad ones used to, even as recently as two weeks ago, and my great ones felt great.  Can't wait to play this weekend :-)

I then did a few "chitch" shots, as per Mike's videos ("chipping with a putting method" I think was the thread).  Yesterday was my first time hitting these not into a net other than occasional impulse shots on the course with a wedge;  between yesterday and today, I hit a half dozen or so each with U, W, 9, and 7 and paced off the carry+roll for what I think of as a "starter, do this by default" swing (given my preference for starting feel shots mechanically).  I think the next time I'm in a non-tournament round and have a shot where I have enough non-green that I'm hesitant to pull my putter, I'm going to try these.  I think a bit of practice with these and I should be able to get my 15-25 yard off the green shots closer to the pin, and my SGSG indicates I can shave a stroke here.

Lastly, I did a "around the clock" drill from 4' putting, using 15 putts to complete:  9 on first pass, then made the three I missed on second pass [2].

[1] It occurs to me, I think I have more opportunities to hit approach shots of this distance, given the hole lengths at my course and my driving distance.  However, that would also be a good reason to emphasize these ranges.  It's 6-iron, 5-iron, and 4H in my case.

[2] It occurs to me, since these have numerical results, I should probably record them a chart what is happening so it isn't "yeah, I think that's better."

Later today will include some Speed Sticks and probably some more full swings (these ones will be indoors).

Day 25:

Did some more slow motion takeaway work. My hands and club are still a little bit too far outside which is causing the club to get laid off at A4.

Will do some indoor putting before bed to try and work on a feel that has been doing wonders for me which is “feeling like I’m rotating around (and kinda with) the spine”.

Day 16:  Studied Lesson 2 from Ben Hogan's Five Lessons like I was back in college.  Took notes, restated some concepts, and did my best to put the instruction into action.  Practiced the stance and posture with multiple clubs.  Also did PuttOut drill indoors.

Day 227

Hit around 30 balls with 6, 7, 8 irons with pre shot routine hip / core rotation feel. Ball striking was great - mostly center face, no horrendous chunks or thins.

Hit another 30 balls with 55 degree wedge with same routine and everything a bit far and off the toe. Note - will try COVID-19 day-5 pump drill with higher lofted wedges to see if I can find center face. Not sure what’s happening.

Superspeed workout as well.

Day 17: Played 9 holes at my "home" course.  No new pars for the par challenge, although I managed to miss 2 good opportunities on both holes I have remaining.  Missed an 8 foot putt for par on 5.  One of those internal battles where you're either going to putt through the break, or play the break and drop it in.  I aimed to drop it in but put pace on it to putt through it.  Simply a mental error, lack of proper focus over the putt.  On 7, i was pin high, about 4 feet off the fringe, sitting 2.  Decided this was a good time to try to chip with a 9 iron for the first time this year.  Previously I'd have used a gap wedge there.  But been leaving that short lately, and have seen a bunch of things recommending more chips with an 8 or 9 iron and run it to the hole.  So, of course, first time trying it, put it way past the hole, and blew my chance to get up and down to save par.

Game golf was down this morning, still is I think.  Is it time to bail on the service?  Arccos is starting to look really appealing.

Day 38.  Practiced putting for 10 minutes this morning (speed at 10', 20', 30') at one golf course before driving to the other for today's round (which doesn't have an open practice putting green and doesn't even let you in until 20 minutes before your tee time).

Then I played 18... poorly.  Only 3 GIR, a good number of near-GIR but so few up and downs, and most of the time when I got up and down, it was for bogey.  I had 4 chips that finished within 2' of the cup today, but only one for par (the others were one for double, two for bogey).  Finished with an 89, nearly 5 shots over my handicap :-(

Here's the round.  The good news is I feel I played about as poorly as I could today and still broke 90.  Hopefully tomorrow's round is better.

Day 26:

Played 18 holes at Moon Golf Club. The driver was incredible. Not a single ballooning slice was seen. Only driver misses were two pulls that weren’t bad at all and ended with a GIR and a NGIR.

I built a little bit of confidence with the 60 degree wedge (today was literally the first round this year that I used it). I only used it for one shot which was on a 280 yard par 4 that is also uphill about 30 yards. Absolutely destroyed my driver to the left (which is an okay miss and was also one of my aforementioned pulls) but the small green is protected on that side by a pretty sizeable pine tree. I realized the 60 was probably my best shot at a GIR so I whipped it out instead of the 56. Hit a pretty nice 3/4 shot that made it over the tree and landed on the far side of the small green. I like the idea of using the lob wedge as a specialty club when elevation is needed, or I need to land the ball very softly.

Day 228

Hit some balls with my new 3W with Mevo to get a sense of ball flight because I am putting it in the bag for my round this weekend. Hit it really well off the deck and off a tee. For some reason, I have always loved the look of the shallow face of PING fairway woods.

Also did some practice with 7-iron working on hip/core rotation.
