"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

Day 15 (25 Dec 21) - after the gifts (several books on golf) worked with the new trinket - an electronic putting cup.  Used it to work on keeping the head in place till it went in (and sprung back) from 3 thru 10 feet.  What I like about it, you miss the “hole lines” it will literally lip around.  Likewise if you are on target you get the pleasure of the ball kicking back to you.  After some time with it, went outside and worked on keeping the head centered while hitting pitches with the 50 and 58.

Day 3:

Spent 5 minutes (12 balls) rolling straight 6 foot putts. Putting to a hole that is 2-3/16" in diameter. I made 6 out of 12.

Then spent 5 minutes in front of a mirror. Working on my priority pieces. (And my set up piece) No ball, just a 7 iron and 2 mirrors. One down the line and one face on.

Day 19 (misstated the Day # for yesterday , should’ve been day 18) (26 Dec 21) - worked on grip position today.  I tend to keep a weaker grip, so today was about strengthened grip.  Followed it with 3/4 swings with the 7i.  Using the hard foam balls to get good controlled flight.

Day 148:

Played 18 this morning. Started off with clear skies, beautiful day, but very cold. Shot 39 on the front 9. Then the rain started, and heavy stuff started around the 14th hole, soaking the greens and basically making it pointless to putt. Finished with a 43 on the back 9, but that was without putting on 14-18 (counted 2 putts per hole).

Day 4:
A lot of mirror work. Again, 7 iron.
Again mirror down the line and face on.

Trying to work on my priority piece as well as the timing of my shift.

So far I feel like an orangutan performing brain surgery with a tuning fork.

When it starts to feel at all better I'll start hitting balls with it.

Day 65 (12/27/21) - Took Christmas Day and the next day off due to family commitments; back at it today.

Worked on 3', 4' and 5' putts with my PuttOUT mat setup (now includes the mirror and gate) focusing on setup, ball position, line and speed.

Merry Christmas!

Day 57, December 27, 2021

Gave some GEARS lessons for about six hours today. Worked on the backswing and transition for about 12 minutes afterward and before going to Five Guys, where a bacon cheeseburger now costs $11.89. Preposterous.

Day 149:

More rain, so continued indoor practice on hip priority piece and some grip work. Storms supposed to be moving on after today, and I think Mevo+ is arriving tomorrow, so really looking forward to some outdoor full swing work.

    • Day 169: Did some full swing work with Mevo+, using 7-iron and 4-iron. I'm happy with where my launch angles are right now, and I will verify on GC4 next lesson. Didn't count these as shot zone mapping since I was also working on some mechanical changes at the same time, but I wasn't unhappy with dispersion - just a few pulls/bad left misses, but main miss is a push with a bit of slice.

    • Did they blue screen in that golf course? Something just seems off to me. At first, I thought it looked like a really good video game cut scene.  I think they look very hi definition, and the background looks less so.  The physics of the golf ball look off. You can see the golf ball just start to plummet out of the air right after he hits it.
    • I had the chance to play Southern Pines this weekend...it's REALLY good.  A solid 8/10.
    • Played Umstead with my brother again today.  I shot 40-42 for a solid 82. The front was consistent, four bogeys and five pars. A par on the par-5 ninth was a bit disappointing since I was on the fringe in two with about a 15-footer for eagle, but it is what it is. On the back I made two doubles on 15 (jail on approach shot) and 16 (drive hooked OB) but otherwise solid: five pars and two bogeys. So I was able to keep huge numbers off the card for the most part. It was a fun day. My brother also reached a milestone today: he went 46-43 for 89 and broke 90 for the first time! He only had one really bad hole (tripled 5), and a birdie on 10 jumpstarted him. It was fun to watch! I’m playing Hillandale with a buddy tomorrow morning, so stay tuned!
