"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

Day 33 - Had a little fun today with indoor putting practice by doing Faxon's "6 putts from 6' with 6 different clubs (putter last)" drill.  For the first 5 clubs I used Driver, 9-wood, 6i, PW and LW. It took two tries to "sink" all 6 putts in a row (the "hole" was my perfect putt trainer).  Apparently, Fax uses this drill frequently with juniors and had Mcilroy do a version of it when they first started working together.

Day 10: Played 18 today, first round of 2023. It was sunny and 58 degrees and for my course it was finally calm. The 30 inches of rain in 3 weeks really showed as everything was very soft, definitely learned how far everything carried as rollout is not really a thing right now. All the practice showed on the course, hit more greens than I have in a long while, had some nice chips and got up and down and only had 32 putts which I liked. Good 2023 opener.

Day 50: 1/20/2023

I spent 20 minutes this morning trying to make my devil ball on a six foot putt.

I got better at it as I went along.

Day 81, January 20, 2023

Prepared most of the day to record a podcast, but considered shooting a video downstairs. Didn't do it, but it resulted in about ten minutes of practice.

Day 19 (21 Jan 23) - Full day planned, so plan was to drill with the putter.  Did a fave drill of mine - take one ball (in this case a yellow Callaway) - putt to about 5’.  Then drop six other white balls randomly about the same distance.  Goal is to roll the ball to where it would just “tap” the target ball.    Not that easy, as the carpet I roll on in the shop has enough texture to act on the roll.   Not enough pace and it will drift.  Too much and it will blow by.  While most skirted the target a little high or low, had a few tap the target.  Overall pace was good with the balls on average finishing within 6” of the target.

Day 21: Did some putting work on my mat while waiting for my wife to get ready. Primarily working on bead, but doing that by checking the feels in my stroke - more straight back, handle more upright, slightly closer to the ball. Felt good to get this in - stroke feeling better even with just working for 10 minutes today.

Day 51: 01/21/2023

Got a lot of good work in this morning at the indoor range. I went early and I was the only one there. So, I got to spend a lot of time working on the swing. Mostly block practice. I videoed the swing as well. It looked better today than last week and I took that as a good sign. Then I chipped for 15 minutes. Chipping to 3 different targets. Next I spent just 10 minutes trying to hit short pitch shots at specific targets.

I got out the putting mirror and rolled a few balls just checking my set up. I did some putting with the putting mirror as well. Finally, I spent about 20 minutes doing Erik's Random Speed Control Putting Drill. I worked on 10 to 12 footers into a 4' x 4' area.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 34 - Practiced stroking putts one handed - right first the left. I found the left handed putts much more difficult. Will continue to practice this way from time to time.

Missed yesterday so today is day 11/12. Spent 5 minutes mixing two drills. Set up next to the wall in good posture and did slow motion backswing pivots with a club across my chest and ensured my trail butt cheek pushed backwards into the wall.

Day 35 - More putting practice today. I'm working on changing my putting stroke to more of an Utley approach and it is taking time to get used to the change. Winter in NE is a good time to work on making this sort of change.
