"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

Day 277

Pretty good rains earlier this mornong left very wet conditions. Almost too wet for golf. More rain is still in the forecast.

So, I decided to hit a few balls off (4) uneven lies. There's burm on the practice area about 4-5 feet high. It drained pretty well since it was built using the spoils of the practice bunker next to it.

I probably hit 30-35 balls. These were pitch shots of about 30 yards. I was just looking for good ball contact while keeping my balance. My bag, and trolley doubled as a target.

A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Day 20:

Long range session today. Not is much working on "swing changes", however, I did work on tweaking various things about my set up and in swing feel to see what the results were. I wasn't near as steep today, actually getting stuck a bit and blocking shots early on. I was able to correct that by making sure my body was moving toward the target (i.e. sliding hips), and of course making sure I wasn't crowding the ball ( I seem to like to creep up on the ball as the weeks go by...). Finished with some "bread crumbs" wedge games. Fun and helpful game for flighted wedges.

Day 8

After a long day of non-golf activities it was pitch dark outside when I got home even though I wasn't that late. I was really not feeling like putting so I did short chips in the hallway - great fun! I really need to get a chipping net and some good indoor practice balls before I break something.

Winter is coming...

Day 87

Went to a DR that had real turf ro work on hitting off turf with irons and hybrids.   Generally happy with direction and lost but could not accurately judge distance, though that looked good as well.  Practice green was crowded, for some reason, so I was not really able to do what I hoped to do.  Tomorrow is a do the whole bag day.

Day 28.  Two dozen balls in my golf room after dinner this evening.  Whenever I get casual about my setup, I seem to hit poorly.  When I set up well, I feel like I hit it well.  Going to aim for outdoor practice tomorrow, and I'm playing both days this weekend.

Day 278

A lot drier this morning. No rains last night. Bought a small basket of balls to use with my metal woods. Used the extreme right side of the range so as to allow the fence to be my right side fairway boundry. The left side was two flags, which gave me what looked to be a normal fairway width. As always the idea is to keep the long ball in, or near my make shift fairway. Since the fence was my "slice" side boundry, it added a little more focus to my shots.

I hit most of my shots with the ball tee'd up. My 5w & 7w, I did hit a few off the still damp turf.

Went with my preshot rountine on all shots after warming up. Did this while rotating through the 4 clubs. I did spend more time with my driver than the other clubs. The longer club is causing some minor balance issues for me. I will get it worked out. I have not used my driver very much over the past few months.

Most of the 30-40 balls landed where I considered them to be playable second shots. Most of the poor shots were hooks, which is not really a bad shot, since I am still  doing alot right in my swing. I did slice a few with my driver, which I attributed to timing, out of balance issues.

It was a good session.

Day 244 - October 5, 2018 - Hit a lot of 7-irons with mirrors. Feeling good about things. Worked on controlling start lines a bit more as some misses were a tiny bit left the other day (started too much at the target).

DAY 316!!  Life is good!!!   Did a two a day today.  In the morning I spent 2 plus hours on the range, working with both my Impact Snap and Swingyde.  Also hit to a pin which was 77 yards away to assess my wedge accuracy.  Unfortunately the new range I am going to... the morning sun is directly in your eyes, so I had NO feedback on ball flight the entire time :-(

Went back in the afternoon for a couple of hours.. spent the first hour on the putting green with the Pelz Putting Tutor, then a distance control drill -- having to 2 putt from distances ranging from 20-60 feet..  then an around the world drill seeing how many I could make ... set up at four places around the hole from 3, 4, 5, and 6 feet.  I made 14/16 putts.   Then hit the range continuing to work with my Impact Snap.   Then hit 10 52 degree wedges to a target... and hit 8/10 with in 15 feet.  The afternoon sun is higher in the sky so I could see the ball flight of every shot.

I will probably change up my daily plan.. working on and around the green in the morning and on the range in the afternoon.

Hit 4 shots, every weapon in the bag. Happy for the first time with every club. Got the hits I expected in terms of target and distance. Ready for next week's rounds.  Wester may turn rainy these next two days.

Day 21:

A solid score today at Blackhorse South. 92. Tough course, played fairly well. Everything 100 yards and in was great. Tee game was fair, struggled off and on with my irons. Gamegolf round to come later.

Day 29.  Hope for an outdoor session today didn't happen, but I did get two dozen balls worth of full swing (setup in particular, still) practice in using my golf room.

Nearly 20 minutes of full swing work. Most of my time on proper set up and backswing checkpoint. This combination has helped me immensely with both solid contact and path.

Day 89

Focused on 5-7i and 4,5 &7h.  Both the 7i and 7h were the most consistent.  While I got good loft and distance off the others, accuracy was a bit all over the play, primarily from over swinging problems.  I was able to correct after each mis-hit.  But if this were a round, those correction shots wold also have been known as recovery shots.  Looking at a somewhat challenging course this week, so minimizing problems with these "second shots" will also be my focus tomorrow (provided predicted heavy rain tays away).

Day 279

Played 18 at the Mojave Golf Resort. A little over 6900 yards (73/126). Shot an 86, which was about well as I could play it, I think.

Cloudy, with a steady breeze. 32 putts. Birdied the first hole which offset a double bogey on the back half. The rest were a mix of either bogies or pars. Had a nice 30 foot chip in for a bogey. Probably my shot of the day, as their was a decent right to left break involved.

Played with three, new to me,  local older guys. We got along just fine. They probably should not have invited me to join in their skins game....lol

I highly recommend this course located between Laughlin, NV, and Needles, CA, on the the old Needles highway. (Avi Resort & Casino)

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
