Day 291: Rangework today focused on my priority pieces especially the backswing. Simulated tee shots for a few of the holes I play. Finished with SuperSpeed training, blue stick only. Hit 103 with the blue and 101 with the driver. Sets were very consistent too. The Blue Only Protocol has 2-3 minute rest between sets, which I think helps.

Day 7 (8/13/21) - 9 hole league tonight. Shot another 47 in an up and down round which included a birdie, a par and two triples. It didn't help that the heat index was over 100*.  Need to work on approach shots, particularly with wedges.

Day 13:

Did some backswing practice, working on finding a feel/physical trigger for the end of the backswing, because I frequently rush my backswing and don't turn enough. Then did some rehearsals for my downswing priority piece (lesson in 1.5 weeks to see how I am progressing on this). Finished up with some COVID-19 day 6 and 7 drills.

Day 80, August 13, 2021:

Side 2 of Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd.

Played 18 Holes today in 2 hrs and 35 minutes. Would have been right around 2 hours but it started pouring after my second shot at the 15th.

I, then, hit a shag bag full of balls with a 9, 7, 5i and 4h with my taller feeling setup. Why the hell didn’t you guys tell me that my 5i would CARRY 200-210 yards with no roll just by setting up taller?

Day 169.  Today was day one of my club championship.  I shot a 79, good for a five stroke lead on my flight, at least in gross standings.  I also lowered my ringer score at my home course by 4, making par at #7 (hadn't done yet this year) and birdies on holes 3, 6, and 18.  On 18, I got up and down from 45 yards out for birdie to break 80, although admittedly, I didn't know just how well I was playing at the time.

Day 49 (14 Aug 21) - Birthday treat today with a trip to the driving range near our beach place.  Using rented driver (no-name and weighed a ton, traded for a bent shaft 3w) and a Mizuno MP 54 7i.  Worked on shot placement - better success with the 7i, one sweet club, as opposed to the long clubs. Warmed up using split grip to get the turn happening.  Settling in, I was able place the ball pretty much where I wanted.  Using the bend head 3w I could still rattle off some decent swings.

Day 170.  Day two of club championship.   I didn't play as well as yesterday, but despite two lost balls I hung in there.  I "only" hit seven GIRs:  holes 4 and 7, and then the last five holes.  No birdies today.  Two off the lead going into the last round which is tomorrow.

Day 15:

Played 18 this morning. After only sleeping about 2 hours figured it was going to be a shit show.

It was for the front 9, but found an exaggerated backswing feel for the back 9, and ended up scoring okay.

Day 171.  Third day of club championship.  Did some swing related exaggerations at the range before the round and, for each shot, focused to make sure I was setup properly and just put a good swing.  I didn't try to kill the driver, just put it in play.  I selected what I thought was the right club for each approach shot.  I hit eight greens in regulation en route to an 82, good enough to win my flight by two strokes.

I three-putted the final green (after hitting it in regulation with a 54 degree);  first putt was way short, I marked and waited.  The rest of my group finished, and while I was putting, unbeknownst to me, checked the leaderboard.  Sure enough, I could have four putted that green for the win (we were the final group out in our flight), so I didn't know after missing that second putt that it didn't eliminate me.  I tapped in for a six, my only bogey on a par-5 all week, and my first win in a club championship (well, my flight at least).

I don't know where else to put this, so I'll put it here.  Strokes gained (well, lost) today:  Off the tee:  1.74 (better than the 10 handicap mark, and I averaged 214 yards), Approach: 1.03 (better than the 5 handicap mark by more than a full stroke), Short game: 2.78 (better than the 20 handicap mark), Putting: 5.64 (far better than the 12 strokes lost putting round I had a few months ago).

Averaged over the three-round tournament:  SLTee: 3.35, Approach 1.85, Short game 3.1, Putting 3.89.  All better than the 20 handicap mark;  off the tee misses the 15 handicap mark by .06 strokes (not bad, considering round two had two lost balls off the tee!), and that approach number is just amazing.   There's a lot of Evolvr lessons and practice time in that number and I'm very proud of producing that.  Now to improve on that... :-)

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
