Day 657: Rained today finally. So I went to the gym and brought a 6 iron. Did a new In-Season Fit for Golf workout then did mirror work at the end.

Day 169.  A dozen practice balls, 6-iron, indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls.  As usual, 2-3 rehearsals to ensure I was making the backswing I intended.

Day 28: Busy day at work but I was able to get in some focused practice in the morning before work and then tonight before dinner. Foam balls and real balls, nothing but 9 to 3 swings, concentrating on solid contact and synchronizing the arms and body. I worked a bit with intentional toe and heel hits to try to get more club head awareness. Finally, about 20 balls using a lanyard/ball tool to help with the synchronization of arms and body.

Day 15:

Worked indoors on backswing with LVP camera. After a few sessions with camera, I realize I was starting to overdo/overexaggerate the depth priority piece, but I have reeled it in a bit and I don't want to jinx myself, but I think I am making some good progress.

Day 298 - Practiced chipping on the range with a small bucket and my 58* wedge. Started with basic motion focused on making good contact for about half the bucket. Then hit various trajectories, distances and from various lies. Finished in the practice bunker with some balls that I shagged (being alone on the range).

Day 658: Range today at Laurel Lane. Worked on my drill with 6 iron and driver only. Started with slow swings to get the motion down including the long arc feel. Ramped up a bit and really only hit two full speed swings with each club. Finished with some short game work including sand.

Day 37: 8/23/2022

I got more good work in today. Had about an hour at the range.

Spent the first 20 minutes in the short game area working intermediate wedges. 30-60 yards.

Then spent 20 minutes working on driver.

Spent the last 20 minutes putting. I did the makeable putts challenge again.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 70 (23 Aug 22) Played 9 hole best ball with men’s group from church.  Our team consisted of my son, grandson and myself.  Course was CPO (Cart Path Only),  so we were careful to stay as center the fairways as possible.  Still a good day to discuss strategy as my son said, “I really like playing best ball.  No stress, just relaxing fun”. Round was a good mix of everyone’s game.  We finished two over with two bogies and seven pars - and no sixes on the card!

Two days off, well not completely, because I overdid it and got my wrist irritated with a bad hit or two into the mat.  I need to get a better mat and to work on my hitting area more-my "tee" area is a bit wonky. Wrist is feeling better today, I'll be back after it tomorrow and I had been solid for 2 or 3 weeks before that. But I know I'll take days off and that's not the game here. So carry right on and hit 'em like you mean to. I'm pulling the ripcord here.

Day 170.  I had time for another dozen full swing shots, 6-iron, indoors, off a mat, into a net.

I'm sort of in a holding pattern at the moment for practice.  Look for a lot more focused practice from me, coming soon!

Day 29: Today I practiced again, indoors, with the lanyard/ball device, pitch shots and 3/4 swings. I then tried duplicating the feel without the ball/lanyard. The swing length with the lanyard/ball thing was not enough to get consistent reads on face and path, but it definitely produced a different feel on the downswing. It was like the downswing was easier and more automatic. I suspect the club was probably on a better plane, or at least a different plane than I'm used to. I want to do some video recording of this to explore it. I followed this with a few simulated holes. My thought on the sim holes was to forget practice details and concentrate on a connected, continuous swing motion. I took practice swings until I had one which felt good, then tried to replicate the practice swing on the ball.

Day 16:

Did more indoor camera work on backswing and then hit some balls with 7-iron. Backswing feels very short, but I’m hitting the ball pretty flush, straight (relatively), and far enough.

Day 296, August 24, 2022

Hit balls at the range between working with Behrend students. Hitting it pretty good right now so long as I go out/up and make a 1/10th swing. 😉

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
