While out on the course yesterday, someone told me that the new rules include some sort of specification about how far a tee has to be from the prior green.  (He was saying that a current teeing ground wouldn't be allowed under new RoG since it was too close to the previous green.)

As we chatted about the new rules, it was clear he knew several of the other changes correctly, so it's got me wondering if he's right.  Any new rules about tee location?

No.

The Rules of Golf don't even specify that the hole has to be cut on the putting green… they're not going to specify where a teeing ground has to be relative to a green.

Thanks.  It seemed a bit unusual to me, but he knew other changes spot-on, so figured it was worth checking.

I don't like that you:

* can "accidentally" move your ball on the green w/o penalty.

* now have only 3 min. to look for your ball.

* can "accidentally" move your ball during search w/o penalty.

* can "accidentally" hit your equipment.

* can "accidentally" ground your club, or even lean on your club while in the sand trap.

Last, but not least, I still feel it's unfair that you can't get relief from fairway divots.

Not sure I've seen that (temporary green, maybe?).  Just thought that the hole being defined as being "on the putting green" would require it to be on the green.

Again: what do you do if the hole's cut on the back fringe?

It's not a hole? I guess by the strictest of interpretations, it's not. But… I stand by what I said earlier. And I've played silly season tournaments where the hole is cut in all sorts of places. You can still play by the Rules of Golf.

Consider that to be the area of the hole I am playing that the Committee has defined as the putting green.
