It's apparently not for too long, though, as she plans to defend her title in a month.

So… ???

Something going on there. A month? Maybe her guilty conscience is getting to her? This is interesting.

Very odd. Wasn’t a family member of hers really ill? I wonder what prompted this. The American ladies need to start competing. They are getting smoked in each tourny.

Asking out of genuine ignorance here:  is this comparable to Dustin Johnson's vacation a few years ago where it will be rumored to not be entirely voluntary?

Either that or some serious family matter.  IMHO

It is really odd that it’s for only a month. Something’s rotten in Denmark.

Maybe she's just burnt out and needs a break. Lets be honest, this game takes its toll mentally and physically on us mere mortals so just think what it does to the pro's playing week in week out for a living.

If it was that why say she needs to work on herself?

Could be just her turn of phrase. Unless she's emotionally done in. I could see someone "having to work on themselves" to get out of a bad place. End of the day we can only speculate for the time being.

It certainly seems like something that ‘suddenly came up’ (Brady Bunch, yes). Taking a break, resting, etc..can be scheduled but odd to skip a major for that.

To play devil's advocate, when you're tired, and mentally drained, you are. A long flight overseas, jet lag, playing a tournament that may not suit her game all that well… might be a good time to take a break. Do nothing for a week or two. Get back a week or two before defending the tournament.

A sign of major mental depression, perhaps? She's 23, her mother has cancer, plus the "ruling thing". Plus she has had to play adult on the tour and in the public eye for a long time (since age 13 I recall?). I'm for cutting her some slack. Best ,-Marv

Yeah slack is fine. I’m just saying with a problem like that one would usually do as DJ did and just take a leave. But her enthusiastic ‘I’ll be back to defend’ in just a month just seems like it’s more about getting something done.

    • I'm no scratch or single digit player, so old or new equipment probably dont make any difference, I just play 15-20 year old second hand clubs because they look and sound better than new ones
    • Sounds like you may be  trying to get them to feel what you feel. You can’t tell people what they feel or should feel all the time. People’s proprioceptions, physical ability, muscle strength can be vastly different from one to the other.  You keep saying ‘appearance of improvement.’ I don’t even know what you mean by that. If a student is moving his head 6” front side and drifting his body with hit and getting his club stuck back forcing him to throw the club to catch up..that’s a poor movement. You get him to make a centered pivot and correct this problem it’s not just an appearance.    How you achieve that may not be the same for every student. I’m no professional by any means. @iacas is. It just seems like you’re trying to suggest feels are universal.
    • Another thought I had - fill something the size of a tennis ball tin with solvent and then sit the grip in the solvent bath to ensure the tape gets thoroughly soaked.  Anyone tried this?  Any downsides I haven't thought of?
    • Day 3: DONE. Okay, @iacas What I like: That the videos are short, simple and follow a very logical progression. It feels like somebody who's never played the game before could start this series and "build" a golf swing.  I like that they focus on fundamentals. Seems obvious, that trying to diagnose a swing fault from a crowd of folks on this forum is impossible. However, you see that a lot with online instruction. "If you have this fault do this..." …"What if I don't have this fault?"  I truly believe these lessons could dovetail with any swing coach's lessons you are getting... alright perhaps if you are learning a very "non-standard" golf swing... but there are other threads for that topic. I like the way you have each lesson laid out in words above the video, so we can see what's covered. That makes a lot of sense.  What I might suggest going forward - I know you have a bunch planned, but since you are looking for suggestions.... Drills to promote balance Drills to promote speed increases I will always be working on posture. More posture drills are personally always welcome. Some may not need them, but finish position posture is something I tend to lose and rebuild often.  Set up differences between driver and irons (perhaps this is 2 sessions: Set up and Swing differences.)  Trajectory mini-course Shot shape mini-course Thoughts on Swing Thoughts Thoughts on Enjoying Pressure A video for all five or one video per each of the five swing keys - How to diagnose etc... Putting fundamentals (I assume that's on the way.) Read, Speed and Bead - How to diagnose which is failing you? How to work on them? If it can be done. Perhaps a course strategy video? … Although that video you could just chuck down a copy of LSW and say "READ THIS".  Equipment fitting suggestions video? Warm up routine video? Golf related stretching? These are all just suggestions. I am not a golf coach, but I've got a lot of experience working with golf coaches … I tend to need a lot of coaching. The videos you have done so far have been an absolute Godsent for me. I truly appreciate all of these videos you are doing. When this whole thing is over and we're all sure we're still employed I hope a bunch of folks reup to support this site and the incredible amount of content it provides.
