Ryder Cup challenge at your home course?

My course is having a Ryder cup style tourament this weekend. The first day consisted of best ball match and Alternate shot versus similar handicaps. Tomorrow will be a match play 18 holes, that will be picked by our team's coaches. Does anybody else have anything like this going on at their home Club?

We have 2 Ryder Cups a year at my course (spring and fall). Both are 27 holes and we've played best ball, alternate shot, and scramble as The team portion.  Always end with singles match play.

I look forward to those events more than any other event at the course.

We've done this within our foursome and it's great fun.

We had a one day event that went 6 holes of scramble, 6 of better ball and 6 of match.

Aside from my own play that day, the event came off well despite an unfortunate scheduling conflict with the City Championship that took most of the top-end players.

My partner and I ended up with a point halving the scramble portion and my match. I was pissed with how I played, but the captain was pleased. He apparently paired us figured he'd get nothing out of us and hope for better elsewhere.

My men's club does a Ryder Cup tournament every year. Our course has 27 holes, so we do 9 holes of alternate shot, 9 holes of best ball, and 9 holes of single matches. It's a lot of fun.

We do pretty much the same thing.  First day is 9 holes of foursomes, 9 holes of fourball.  Second day is 18 holes singles.  Team selection and pairings are all done on the Friday evening immediately prior, and that is almost as much fun as the golf.

Yea we had that as well. A few guys had been drinking a lot and became quite rowdy which was funny in some ways.........and a little sad in some....

Yes we kind of do it but in an awfull way. You just sing yourself in a tee time with a partner and the other couple how sign with you play against you. The first signed in the line are team blue and the second team read. It´s fourball matchplay. No captain, no picks.. just random team, only one day. no cup, no nothing.
A good idea really bad implemented.

Its a shame that its worked out that way for you.  I really enjoy the "team" atmosphere of the event.  Most competitions we play on our own, occasionally with one partner, and very occasionally with a 4-player team.  For this one weekend a year, I have 30 or more players on my team, and I'm rooting for every single one of them to play well and win.

Yea it is fun but I barely saw anyone. I had the earliest tee and we were the fastest of the groups. We played our match in under 4 hours and played all eighteen holes.

There's the problem, we do each of our matches as shotguns, including each of the two 9-hole matches on day 1.  We end up with opening morning trash talk, lunch-time trash talk, post-day-1 trash talk, more morning talk, and final results moaning or crowing.

We have done a Ryder-format event the past three years.  Michigan seniors (MPSGA) versus Indiana seniors (ISSGA).  36 players for each team.  First day is 4-ball (2-man best ball) for nine holes and Foursomes (alternate shot) for nine holes.  Singles is the second day (18 holes).

As @DaveP043  mentioned, we start as a shotgun so everyone finishes at sort of the same time.

Rather than handicap the matches, we have tried to match up the individuals and teams evenly.  There is a dinner after the first day, along with a "hospitality room".  The venue is northern Indiana to try to make the travel for each team about even.

So far the finishes have been fairly lopsided. Michigan won in 2016 and this year while Indiana prevailed in 2017.

That would be the best scenario but it also ties up the golf course for revenue which is why we probably do it the way we do.

Suggest a "reverse shotgun".  Teams/matches start on 1,18,17,16,15,14,13 ...  Within an hour or so the first tee is clear.

We do one vs another course. They are about 20 miles apart, and we seem to end up in each others member guests a lot. The pros are good friends also. Limited prize money, endless bragging/insults.
