I played Mizunos for probably 15 years and never once thought of switching. Through a raffle win and some trading I ended up with a set of Rogue Pros irons. Since I didn't have any money in them, I played a few rounds with them. I love the new irons. I don't care if they are GI or not. They fit my eye, give good feedback, and have better distance. For me, my main goal is to shoot the lowest scores I can possibly shoot. If it takes a GI iron to make that happen, so be it. My thoughts on it are this...I'm positive that not every shot I hit is going to be perfectly centered in the middle of the clubface, so why not have a GI iron to help with the mishits? I still have my Mizunos, so I can switch back at any time, but right now, I'm gaming the GI set.

Full disclosure I’ve never hit a blade but I can imagine that missing the sweet spot by a quarter inch and having my fingers sting.

Honestly, I have experienced just as much sting from GI irons as I did my Mizunos.

Some CBs are small and thin and look almost like blades. For example, Titleist AP2. Many pro's use them, like Jordan Spieth.

I don't think the AP2 looks almost like a blade. The AP2 topline is significantly thicker than even the 718 CB.

Agree. It’s not as thick as the AP3, but more than the CB or MB.

Really the only thing the AP2 resembles a more blade design is the overall size of the club. The longer irons tend to have that smaller head size you see with a more traditional blade. I agree, they have thicker top lines. I don't think they have a lot of offset.

As I said above, I'm a 20+/- golfer and can not hit blades consistently. I went to the other extreme, I really like hitting hybrids so I purchased a full set of Cleveland Launcher HB irons, all built on a hybrid design and I never looked back. I don't care what anyone says I hit the Cleveland's iron really well and feel comfortable with them. I also change everything in my bag to mid size grips. But if you hit your blades well why change regardless of what anyone says. You stated your problem is with your driver, I would work on that first before I changed my irons.
