Good morning, all. Newbie here, but I appreciate the opportunity to pick your brains.

I golfed quite a bit in my 20's, but took about a dozen years off for family and work reasons (and money which relates to both!). I got back into things a bit during the later season last year and really want to spend some more time this year. With kids in college, money is still a major factor, so I'd like to save as much money as possible to use on the course rather than lessons (I know, personal instruction is always going to be better).

So, in knowing that I'm settling for something that is less than the ideal, are there any online instructional/tutorial videos that are truly useful for golfing? Any particular instructors with youtube channels that you'd recommend? I know better than to think I'm going to get to be a scratch golfer in this manner, but I've never really broken the bogie barrier as I'm almost always hanging between 90-95.

Thanks for any help!

I recommend starting a swing thread or signing up for evolvr.com. YouTube instructional videos can be good but they're not tailored to your personal swing. You might end up working on something that you shouldn't because there are many ways to hit a specific miss.

The You Tube video I usually recommend is Paul Runyon's chipping video. It teaches the golfer to basically use their putting stroke to chip with.

Once comfortable using this chip/putt stroke method, the chips tend to be more accurate in my opinion. .

I second what @billchao says. You want someone to take a look at your swing.

But if you're going to look on YouTube, just for general knowledge on the swing, I would check out Eric Cogorno.

I agree with @billchao and @nevets88. AMG and EC are both good channels. Chris Ryan and Russel Herritage are good too. Not trying to overwhelm you as they all teach good stuff, it’s just that I don’t know you’re ‘style’ or what you will connect with so having some options can be good for you. I would think one or two of these suggested will click with you.

Thanks, Bill. I'm not familiar with that site, but it intrigues me after looking at it. I'll look into it some more, but the concept makes a lot of sense and is actually very reasonable for what they offer!

I browsed and searched the site before posting as I figured there'd have to be some good resources. This is great, Dave. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who replied! Looks like some good YT channels to look at. That helps me narrow it. My concern is trying to listen to too many voices, so narrowing it down is a huge help!

This is why you should get some personalized evaluation and instruction.  A pretty easy way to do that is to post video of your swing in the My Video portion of this site.  Read the instructions, especially the part about taking good video.

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
    • Day 264 5-24 Worked on getting chest through and arms down infront of chest. Contact isn't great yet but on video looking better.
