  1. I looked up the specs on the X fairways, but it did not give the head volume. The std Rogue 3 wood is not big at 171cc I absolutely love mine.
  2. Saturday was a good day for me ballstriking wise--most everything was going where I was looking. Once in a while I will have a day when the clubs feel strange in my hands, like I have never played before. That's golf. It makes us all cry once in a while. But I still love it after well over 40 years of playing. I highly recommend getting Lowest Score Wins if you haven't already. One section talks about small successes. One takeaway from that is when you hit a patch like you talked about, practice some shorter swings, basically long chips and gradually work back into your full swing, doing the correct things in the correct order. A quote from "Golf in the Kingdom", is to "wait 'em out". When going through a dull period, continue to do the right things and the good results will return.
  3. The range closest to me is closed for renovation, so I only hit balls before I play. I definitely go on the putting green if I am swinging well, loose, and the ball is going well.
  4. I shot 85 Saturday on about 6400 yards/Par 72 rated 70.3/123 I had a pretty good ball striking day for me. My driver distance is creeping up slightly, and my iron play was pretty good for me. I have a new putter, and we are still working on our relationship. My start lines were good, but my read and speed were just off a little, and I had some 3 putts I shouldn't have had. I did have some good two putts though, and my confidence is building. I was able to get the round posted and lowered my handicap by .6 to 13.8 at the 7/15 revision.
  5. The PGA value guide is $31.50 There is no guarantee that it is genuine, but I would not be particularly suspicious based on the price. While an SM6 will still retail new for around 100-119, the SM7's are out which makes used SM6's worth less. The SM6's have also been out for quite some time, so that club could be 2 years old. What kind of shaft is in it?
  6. My 3 wood is 15 and my 5 iron is 24. I went with a 21 hybrid. I also have a wide gap, but the hybrid works for me in that I can stretch it out or choke down. The hybrid I use is a Titleist H1, and it is adjustable from 19-23, with 21 being the stated base setting. I think they come in 19,21, and 23, all adjustable 1 down and 2 up I think.
  7. Titleist 913D2 got me started on the revamp of my bag. Probably less than $100 for a nice one. Forgiving but just be sure to get an appropriate shaft. If you want to buy new/slightly used, I agree on the G400 series as a very forgiving and great performing club.
  8. I agree with the premise that the rolling ball has a better chance of going in the hole. I agree that higher handicap players are more likely to hit a rolling ball, and for balls that go on the green in the vicinity of the hole have a higher chance of going in. However, I voted no, because the first sentence says ".....theory that higher handicap players are almost more likely to get a hole-in-one because ...." Thus, I interpret the paragraph as being a theory that higher handicappers are almost more likely to get a hole-in one, and this is why. I don't think they are more likely to get a hole in one, because their (our) balls are less likely to be on the green at all, much less in the vicinity of the hole. If I am misinterpreting the paragraph, and it really means, " if a high handicapper's ball reaches the green, it is more likely to go in because it is rolling, " then I would agree. For the record, my current handicap is 14.4, close to where it has been for most of my golfing life. I have made one hole -in-one. It is unofficial, because while my wife was riding with me, she was not playing and therefore not an official witness. It was about a 110 yards, and I hit a pitching wedge. I can't say if I jarred it or it rolled in, because it was a blind tee. I hit what felt like a good shot and saw it fly straight toward the hole. When I got there, I was pissed because the ball did not appear to be on the green. I looked all around and in the rough beyond, before finally finding the ball in the hole.
  9. I would make a fairly educated guess at late 60's-early 70's
  10. My current 3 wood is the best I have ever had. Callaway Rogue
  11. I have the SM6 and I like them. If I do my job, they do theirs. At our handicaps, the Mack Daddy's have a little bigger appearance, which could bolster confidence. Both are quality clubs, and I don't think one is better over the other. Try some demo clubs in both if possible, and pick the one that gives you the most confidence. Wedges are really a matter of personal preference, more than anything other than maybe a putter.
  12. I have a set of the Gold from about 1992. I played them until last year when I got my current irons.
  13. I love them. I have a set of '79 Tour Blades, which is the edition immediately prior, in about the same condition.
  14. I could do 5 easily; 4 is a bit harder for me. I think it would be 21* hybrid, 7 iron, a 50-52* wedge with about 10* bounce, and a putter. I might swap a 3W for the hybrid. I can get 200 +/- out of the hybrid, and on most courses I play, that would be adequate. If I could have 5, I would add a driver.
  15. I like it. I started a previous thread on this I think. I like the feel, and I think I get a smidge more distance through the bag. I would say greenside is equal to ProV1.
  16. I wouldn't buy clubs nor even change shafts just based on a random measurement like that. -.25 from what? Two different branded seven irons that had the same stated length could have a variation of that much. That is like sliding your hand down the club half the width of your pinky finger. Now if you go to a fitter and he says this club needs to have this lie and this length, that is something else. If you are looking at a PING chart for instance, that is kind of specific to PING clubs-i.e. it would mean -.25 from THEIR standard. There is nothing wrong with getting fitted, but all the numbers work together to produce a result. It is difficult to just go shopping for used clubs that meet a certain spec when you don't really know what that spec is. First ask yourself what are you really wanting to do? What problems are you having?
  17. 36 holes on Sunday. It has been a while since I did that, but survived quite well actually. I shot 88-85. I was a model of inconsistency, scoring 3 birdies, an eagle, several pars, a few bogeys, and I think three or four 7's, and a couple of other doubles. I am fairly pleased with my progress. My driving distance is improving as is my iron play. I hit more decent iron shots Sunday, than I have hit in a while. I had a few bumps. I cold topped my 3 wood twice. It was unlevel lies both times but still. My driving accuracy needs improving a bit, but I am focusing on hitting it further. My putting is trying to defunk. My old Wilson putter has eyes, but also an illegal grip. How that simple leather grip should be illegal and my Mid Slim, backweighted, Superstroke is legal is beyond me. My focus for the next while will be maintaining my increased driver distance while improving proximity to the fairway, and trying to eliminate blowup holes.
  18. If it is not damaged, 36 holes is my max. I play a couple of courses; one I usually lose a ball and the other I seldom lose one.
  19. It 's funny for old timers to hear that question, "Is Wilson as good as the major brands?" There was a time in the 60's, 70's, and very early 80's where they were THE major brand, as was Macgregor. The wandered in the wilderness for many years; I don't know the whole story, but the latest owners seem to be putting them back on the true path. The V6's look great and I also wish I had the game for them. I honestly don't know about their game improvement lines.
  20. Both have the hoseI but I don't see the weight system on the TS2 in that picture.
  21. My first set came from Service Merchandise bought by my parents when I was about 13-14. Ram Golf boxed set; driver and 3 wood- some type of solid hard plastic similar to a bowling ball-Cyclolac I think. 3,5,7,9 irons, a putter, and a plastic canvas bag with matching headcovers.
  22. Simple answer is that shooting in the 90's with that level of experience is not bad. Depending on which data you read, that is better than average. Complicated answer is what do you mean by "90's" There is a lot of difference in 91 and 99. If you consistently shoot 91 your handicap will come out around 16 whereas shooting 99 will be closer to the 25 you have listed, depending on the course you play. How did you keep score? If you hit OB of the tee, did you re-tee and count that ball as laying 3? Did you putt every ball out? I am not being critical; we all did that starting out-mulligan off the tee, redo in the fairway, gimmee in the leather. In a casual game with friends that I am not posting for handicap, not a big deal to me, I do it myself. Golf should be fun. If you really want to know how good you are, play the ball down and by the rules, sign up for a handicap and post your real scores.
  23. PING G400 and TItleist 718 AP1 as other suggestions. I had the 2016 M2, and traded for the Titleist 718 AP1. The AP1s are a better fit for me. The M2s were high and long as advertised. I think the stock shaft was a little light for me, and while the looks were cool, I like the more traditional look of the AP1s better. The AP1s are similarly "hot" lofts and are also high and long with a good pass.
  24. Thanks for sharing.
  25. I am probably hitting my 3 wood off the tee as straight down the middle as I can. Then a hybrid again as straight as I can, probably slightly favoring the left center. That should cover about 415-430 if I execute properly. Then a 48 or 52 to the green.
