  1. It gets easier to be specific at the range once a player gets better, you walk away from a round knowing what hurt you and it keeps you up at night, knowing you could have scored your best round if you just did that one thing better, so you get to work. A beginner should be specific as well, but also it doesn't hurt to just go beat balls, as long as the swing keys are working, every good player has done just that many, many times, nothing wrong with it.
  2. I doubt I would have reacted well, who would? I've never heard of such a thing, I doubt I would have played at all until he left the area and got back to his hole.
  3. It's fairly non-existent, and I have no interest, why would I want to support the sandbaggers? nobody can stop them obviously, so I'll just have fun playing.
  4. I would think his insurance policy would not allow him to play any golf, casual or pro, nothing. The policy covers him for injuries that stop him from being able to play, and hence make money, if he were out there playing casual golf, that's playing golf, so he could make money.
  5. Stopping the madness and keeping cool is just another skill to learn in golf, and I've struggled with it. I think the psychology needed just comes from experience playing well, knowing that you can get past a bad hole and not let it affect the next shot, because you've done it before, knowing one bad hole will not ruin the round, or even two. I've just been trying to have fun always, relax and have fun, stay focused on my swing and game plan, but smile and relax, that's a winning formula, no dark side.
  6. 3/4 SW, but a full LW is probably there as well.
  7. I'd love to just carry, but after a while the shoulder gets tired and the up and downs get annoying. I push, I can push 27 holes with hills and be good to go with no pains, pulling would be OK too I think, but why pull when pushing is so easy? I know the answer but won't go there. I avoid riding whenever possible, even though it feels so good to relax and play sometimes, the drawbacks are just not worth it.
  8. Always blame the person who hit the ball, it's on them. But this is the main reason why I don't play Titleist, they're an overrated ball anyway IMO but every stiff out there plays them, find another ball and live happy.
  9. I wouldn't worry about it, I don't mark unless I'm in the way as well and when I play with groups that all mark no matter what it does feel strange, like I'm not playing the game right with them, but I don't care, they have their reasons and I have mine.
  10. It was a total delay, he first walked away from the hole, then took a path away from the hole, then did a full circle, and then started to address his tap in, delay and more delay. But I don't think he should get a penalty, it wasn't that long.
  11. i agree its BS, not an issue.
  12. Always microfiber, polyester fabric to stay dry, and I like the lightweight feel, even in the cold. Shorts and polo in the heat, pants and polo in the cool, add a half zip in the cold.
  13. i agree, being tall may offer a distance advantage, but I would think shorter people have an easier time staying centered and hence keeping a steady spine, with a more stable base.
  14. Nike did everything they could to become a player, and they made nice stuff from my limited experience, but the bottom line is the club market is very saturated, it doesn't make sense for NIke to keep being a small fish.
  15. Nah, you get what you pay for, the Dunlop driver may be OK but generally I think a name will have good quality control and use good materials to make the clubs to last, I've seen the heads pop off cheap wedges on the course, I'll keep my decent stuff. That being said there's no reason to buy new clubs if you want to save money, new club technology is kind of a sham IMO.
  16. No problem, green and lush, the sprinklers were going off all around us while were playing last week, it felt so good, I never hoped that they would stay on while I putted out before but that's how hot it was. LI has a bit of a water problem this year, not much rain, but relatively speaking we have it good, lots of water and hence beautiful courses in the dead of summer.
  17. I walked a round yesterday afternoon and it was brutal, the hottest round so far this year by a mile, the humidity was making me hallucinate, my hat was soaked by the 4th hole, I fell asleep soon after getting home, totally spent. Wish I was going back out today though.
  18. I play once or occasionally twice a week and range once a week, it's a recipe for OK'ness, wish I could at least practice more but duty calls.
  19. I've been playing in this heat, around 100 and very humid, walking of course, it's not that big of a deal, you sweat, you drink, you sweat, you hide under a tree as much as possible, and you play. It's better than sitting on the couch in the winter watching golf, so I'll never complain, also it's nice to have a wide open course with all the wimps holding a purse at the mall with the wife.
  20. I don't like it and can't see myself ever wanting to play a course that says I have to tuck my shirt in or wear tailored shorts, off the rack is just fine. I think all golfers should wear athletic clothing, because it's a sport, dress right for the game, not to have a "look" that everyone agrees on, to me that makes the game a social thing, and I'm not there to be social.
  21. It's everybody’s responsibility to play at a good pace, not just the first group, I see no reason to point them out, you got stuck behind a slow group, end of story. But that's why I avoid early tee times, that's when everyone wants to play, I bet you'll find that most complaints about slow pay are early morning players, I play late and never run into slow play, because the courses are usually pretty empty.
  22. This has nothing to with his golf abilities and everything to do with his health, not sure why this notion of him being a has-been keeps coming up, he busted up his back trying to become a SEAL plain and simple, he didn't lose his game.
  23. I don't see it that way, I think Phil simply ran into some bad luck with those monster putts that fell for Henrik, he really did play well enough to win and will again IMO, especially in The Open.
  24. One thing that's helped me a lot recently with driver is to make sure to setup with square shoulders to the ball, still a little spine tilt but avoid "facing the ball" at address which is a very easy mistake to make with the ball position so far forward, do this and sliding your hips toward the target on the downswing (don't spin out early) will put you in the slot and stop pushes and slices big time.
  25. It doesn't matter, just buy a cheap bag of tees and be done with it, don't fall for all the fancy tops with notches and brushes, they're just gimmicks. I prefer wood, no real reason, just like it better than plastic.
