  2. Brooke has become very marketable and has deals with Ping, Titleist, CP rail, BMW, Sunice, RBC and a couple of others whose name escapes this old brain. She has a pleasant personality, cute too, but combining that with talent enough to win, places her way above, more glamourous but less talented golfers like Blair or Paige. She has a huge following of golfers in Canada, But even with victories, she can't make up the difference that Adam Hadwin got for his one victory and other high finishes. The way of the world of sports
  3. He doesn't seem to have the full vocabulary that older golfers can call upon to express their displeasure at less than stellar results. I have, and frequently use, much more "colourful" descriptions. Perhaps they will come in time. A wee bit whiney but I like him. Good for golf.
  4. Better call Saul continues to amaze and entertain. This show, taken from breaking bad has developed on the single presmise of the prequel and given good writing, good casting and strong acting, I believe, in its own way, has surpassed Breaking Bad. Looking forward again to the next season. Back to finish the latest year of House of Cards. Other than Orange is the New Black, some news, and golf on Saturdays and Sundays if I don't get bored have become the normal tv watching for me. Replace golf with NE football and Montreal hockey and that is my time in front of the tube.
  5. I would spend the $50.00 at your club or a club with a pro you can understand for an hour, who will watch your swing with your clubs and go forward with a plan for you to maximize your club/swing in the present. The more aggressive of them might begin a chat about equipment (especially if you are still into hickory) but otherwise, the smart money is always on your ability to swing. Or buying into Titelist PRO v which is now , after 20 years each one advancing the ball 15yds, a distance worthy of note . lol
  6. Can you swear with flair? Can you quote Caddyshack ad nauseum.? Other than kicking the shit out of him which may disrupt the on going flow of your friendship, you must learn to either walk away from this game being played upon you and find the quiet friendship you might be craving elsewhere which happens frequently. Or you have to get a years supply of Turtle wax and toughen the shell. I wont, as Dave mentioned, watch anyone's swing. I will watch a ball but I know that in the day to day normal play, my group collectively carries more than 400 golf balls. I don't care when my golf ball lease is over. I mention that I have only rented it and carry on. This sets a pace for the must seek out golf ball hunters. I can sing if I have to annoy along with swearing and cartoon and movie quotes. But I mostly enjoy all the shots; mine ,my partners, our companions. If it is a bad shot, they know it. There are times to give it a proper appropriate sendoff and other times to let it go quietly. To me that epitomizes good golf buddies. And makes the game the best
  7. I enjoy all the varieties. I like a toasted Meatloaf Sandwich with Mustard. I am a big fan of Montreal Smoke Meat Sandwiches, Thickly piled with Moutard on Rye. Pickle on the side. But I simplify my Peanut Butter/ plus to just Honey as the companion. My My ! Hot dogs are in a category for me with Sausage or Kielbossa on a thicker bun. Heaven.
  8. In Canada, the place for discount clothing is Value Village, which is a donation type place similar apparently to Goodwill. Lots of clothing, high quality/ low price. I recommend it. Giant Tiger which is a discount everything store is a place to browse to see if they have anything interesting. Other than the shirts I buy from my pro shop with the club logo on them, I wear Nike and Under Armor and they were under $10.00 each. Just have to be there at the right time. Wind shirts and pants and rain clothing as well.
  9. Most of the members here (not all ) have wrote to question Lexi's integrity in her placement of the golf ball. As far as I know she has yet to comment upon this particular matter. She may get an opportunity on Wednesday at the tourney in Texas to speak. I cannot imagine she wont be asked. So, if she says I accept the ruling, I did not believe I did anything wrong. What will you say then? The new rules indicate a lot will be placed on reasonableness they player uses in replacement. If Lexi says she thought it was okay, will the masses then question her veracity and call her a liar. Pretty harsh. I love the game but game it is. They have attempted to address issues facing them. When will it be enough? Inquiring minds will want to know
  10. Doesn't it always seem to be a crazy way to designate clubs. By gender. With purple inserts and fuscia grips. Lots of women can play "mens" clubs Lots of men should look into clubs enabling them to play better. I think that for the most part, women like just plain silver clubs and I know that men prefer them to be powerful looking lol.. Their head covers , bags, and accessories may reflect their taste, but so do athletic team coordinated golf accessories used by men. I hope that someone will get the bright idea to market based solely on playability for Senior golfers. And not just at the HIGH end. Okay mini rant over.
  11. As stated earlier, I doubt that there will ever be a point that there is no one to carry her bag. Hell, she may just start re cycling them. But there will always be a hopeful ready to be the next one.
  12. Exactly Jack. What else is there to squander your money on if not booze drugs and women ( in various orders). Meeting others expectations is a ridiculous way to go through life. Frank singing "My Way" should be a theme song for John. I too would rather have him playing. The Champions Senior tour is dull populated by the fabulously talented largely unheralded and maybe unknown golfers who landed into a money pit long after they might have had to take real jobs. Daly might never dominate the score but he'll always be the attraction.
  13. So my question in all of this, after seeing play on the two smaller, older courses, were you impressed with the skill of the hitters or the exactness of the shots into the green or any of the putting skills? I just think that unless you are in the stable for RBC and are "requested" to play Harbor town and wherever the RBC Canadian Open is played, you avoid those weeks. Pros are still private contractors and the fill in tourneys are there for the amusement and entertainment of the viewing audiences and to fill the coffers of local charities. With Fed EX and the 4 majors and the Players and the Invitational only big money tourneys, you can have a very comfortable season or golf without hacking it out to Davenport or Las Vegas or Morocco. It may be that you wont see some of the former golf courses. There are plenty of lengthy ones built ready to step in. I hope they aren't like that one in Washington for the US Open two years ago. But that is the chance you take playing outdoors. I wouldn't limit anything. And of course, the vast majority of golfers cannot play a course successfully from the tips. No matter what ball or what club you use. If you cannot apply the necessary time and inclination to practice, none of the stuff will matter, That's why golfers with tried and true swings and knowledge about there limitations (just like Dirty Harry) said. will prevail and make your wallet flap. Do any of you actually buy new ProV's and/or ProV1's and perceive any noticeable improvement from the 2016 model? I cannot, but that is just me. But I find a shitload in the woods wherever I play. And I have a running Thank you to all who provide.
  14. I would recommend a book by Tom Coyne, called PAPER TIGER. A really good golfer spends a year trying to qualify and practice. Huge support luck financial backing. and it is a really good read and a eye opener for all those who aspire. He also explains the pyramid of good golfers.
  15. What a great topic! So many seniors who are the backbone heart and soul of golf today. A debatable point is whether we are responsible to grow the game. But in the defense of golfers who have raised families worked hard their whole lives, served their countries, the best reward for golfing seniors is the pleasure and the recreation golf provides. It maynot fall to us to grow the game. It may be enough during these down turns in growth to be the rock upon which golf is base.We do have diminished athletic prowess, but, we are better at our swings, our equipment is better, and we have the time (perhaps not always the inclination) to gain flexibility and improve our technique. I would only add to the many good technical and insightful comments that it is important to enjoy playing: to have a league to play in weekly, or your group does a tour of your state or province section. If you look forward always to playing and have that initiative to keep on playing, you will thrive at this. game. Don't forget, preparations of your personal salves, pills, rubs, braces and sleeves. And as mentioned do not fret about hitting from forward tees. Enjoy the privilege that your age gives you. I love this game more each year.
  16. Well a long time coming. Many disappointments along the way. But, he is now the Masters Champ. Good for him. Rose played fine. Every golfer knows that some shots just don't come off the club right. I thought that the CBS coverage technically was fine. The announcing /blithering/filling the air with drivel borders on cruelty. Maybe it's just me getting cranky in my dotage. Congrats Sergio
  17. Thanks Dave. Great Ideal! I am pretty far east but not as far north as Philly out in Washington St. We are indeed heavy on the East side of the continent. Good to see where everyone plays
  18. If seems as though the weather will calm and the scores will start going lower. A great chance for a bold move as it should be mild by the time all of the leaders tee off. I look for Spieth but cheer for them all. Has Fowler actually got a major in him? Can Couples give us thrills. Good days ahead boys and girls
  19. I was thinking about the reasonableness factors today as I returned home from my snow filled golf course. ( We did have an executive meeting 1st of the the season so that's progress ). I always use a 1949 Ben Franklin Silver Half Dollar as my marker in Canada and a two dollar Toonie while playing in the States. Others here have purchased or kept a poker style chip and use that. They are, comparatively, large. I'm not sure how far you mark your ball, lift, and replace while still touching the ball to the edge of the marker but it is , in the miniature world of micrometres quite different. But I would say to you, that if placed back on the marker's edge it would be reasonable. Not to try convincing you nor try to sway anyone. I have stated before, that Lexi's penalty was warranted but the idea of reasonableness is something that will not be easily resolved. Especially in light of Professionals' comments that they are not speaking out against questionable remarking. One might have to be able to defend some re-marks though, with more than just witty repartee, on some of the courses and with some of the golfers with whom I have played in my delightful journey through the golfing world. Interesting times indeed. We can always call the Augusta joint and tell them what we saw.
  20. I haven't participated so far in the on going and endlessly fascinating discussion about the lpga and the assessing of penalties. My blame goes to the lpga. pga euro tours and on and on. The discussions have been held and the rule is agreed by enough so that in 2019, it will not be an issue because it will be a reasonable effort to replace the ball that will be the requirement. Why so long to wait if you know that it is a rule that requires changing. In the electronic era in which we live and play golf, it doesn't require such a length in time for a change to come into effect. The penalty assessed in 2017 is harsh and unnecessary. Obtaining evidence to show such infractions keeps integrity. Yet today, no tournies but a thousand plus balls were marked, some good some bad but the integrity of the game remains. Lexi will recover and go forward. Ryo won the tourney. And we all have opinions. I think the governing tour bodies better smarten up. Tournament sponsors are fragile and not eternal. and they are the power behind the throne.
  21. I have been playing for over 40 years, Played in all the provinces except Newfoundland. Played in Myrtle Beach and the PeeDee Swamp Fox area and have played over 50 courses there. Some are no longer there even lol. Played in Hawaii on Maui at the Dunes there and I have played in Maine. I have played in Washington and in Florida. But having been an Ontario child of god and and now a relocated New Brunswick senior, I have these pretty much blanket covered. I used to collect Bag tags. Too noisy on the bags clacking away. If I really like a new course, I will keep a score card. My calculated totals are up over 300. No bucket lists any more. But I will get to Ireland in the next couple of years and play one at least.
  22. She has been doing well in her tournaments recently including today. She seems she is constantly puttering around. I cannot see her maintain good health through a whole season. She seems so fragile and the stress on the back will take its toll. Good Luck Wish her well. LPGA can use her. She draws ratings and crowds.
  23. I play them all. But if I choose, I like the Callaway Chrome, and the Titleist NXT. I have lots of PRO v's , which, as Buckeyebowman said, are plentiful attesting to their popularity and the Titleist relentless campaign. I am looking forward to finding a KSig brought back to Canada from a Snowbird. Which is the quicker scenario to happen versus them being on the market. I wont buy one either. lots on ebay though
  24. Great for Adam Hadwin. That win gets him an invite to play the Masters. Along with Mike Weir and MacKenzie Hughes, we shall have 3 Canadians at Augusta playing. That in itself is quite amazing. Good Luck to them all.
  25. Tuesday coming is the remnants of the Nor'easter and the gale whipping off the Great Lakes joining forces to dump on little ol' New Brunswick to complete the St Patrick's Day annual snowstorm and power outage. BUT, then is expected to creep ever so slowly upwards. I always expect a white Easter. Even a late one like 2017. Good Luck to all.
