  1. Thanks for sharing these stories, very interesting and human. I can't relate from a golf perspective, don't know anyone with similar stories, but at the risk of going a little off topic, I think I can relate from my early days as a musician. I played sax, etc., all through college and for several years afterwards. Then I just stopped. I occupied my time with other interests. I did dream of playing professionally, but ultimately realized I didn't have the dedication or chops. I don't miss it terribly, but I sometimes think about picking it up again. Realizing the effort it would take to rebuild to an acceptable level of skill worthy of rejoining the music scene keeps me away. I've been there/done that, with nothing really new to prove/no new real drive/purpose, but I did love it at the time, and am still a big music fan, but feel no urgent pull to play again. Maybe there's a parallel to the frustrated golfers in my example. Lots left for me to ponder. The 'why' will take some further unpacking.
  2. Since it seems like your overarching issue is taking your good swing from the range to the course, would it be possible for your instructor to join you on the course for a round?
  3. I'm excited to be on the journey towards legitimately breaking 100. My goal is to do it this year. Thus far I'm just being a range rat; not ready for the course just yet. To quote a familiar phrase, let's do this.
  4. If cost really isn't that big of a deal, go pick up a Canon dslr, a common choice for videographers. Check the specs to be certain, but I expect any of their current models will have adjustable fps as high as you need and then some. It will also give you excellent clarity in lower lighting. The standard offered lens will probably be just fine, but if not, you can buy a wide angle. If youdo have some sticker shock, look for a used model on craigslist or ebay.
  5. You're welcome. :) In a word to the OP, yes. I never listen to anything those 40+ indexers have to say. Seriously, though, for someone like me who is a fan of the game, has no athletic ability, and one day hopes to play more, even I am careful about who I listen to for swing advice, as we all should be. That's why I like this site - it generally promotes very very good knowledge, backed up by data, on the subject, and doesn't put up with poseurs. I definitely look not only at the index, but also the username of the person commenting to see if I remember them. It's part of the trust equation. That said, I don't disregard advice outright, I do process it. It's just that the source is a consideration. I generally am only a reader of the advice, not a giver. I can tell someone what works for me. Teaching golf should really be reserved for the professionals, and then only a handful of them. I do like to participate in the Q&A surrounding a topic to ensure complete understanding when a trusted instructor weighs in. I abhor getting advice from a stranger on the range, or a playing partner. Because I suck and am generally a friendly guy, I'm an advice magnet. However, if I want your advice, I'll ask for it. Otherwise, let me work it out on my own, and pretend you didn't see my umpteenth mishit. You may not believe this, but even though after years of playing bad golf, I still love it and just want to have a good time out there.
  6. Anyone seen this yet?
  7. loving the mobile app this year, esp. the leaderboard player details shot by shot. My pimento cheese and egg salad is in the fridge, ready for a great golf geek weekend.
  8. To me, the move being described is basically the way Dustin Johnson's wrists look at the top of his backswing. Correct?
  9. To the OP and those providing suggestions in this thread, my swing thanks you.
  10. The blimp can usually be heard in the background when it's there during a broadcast. It's relaxing to hear, like waves on the shore. 'Twill be missed.
  11. Lots of great ones alewady mentioned for my top picks - Kuch, Simpson, Sneds, Phil, Scott, Day would be on my shortlist. Add Els, Sergio, and Schwartzel.
  12. I chose option 2, and I'm sad to say I did so. I've given him the benefit of the doubt and really rooted for him (ultimately still do) for a few years now, but this last episode has convinced me he's unfixable for a winning form. Quite simply, Tiger had over a year off to both heal and practice, with the best care in the world. And now we've seen the result. The will is there, God bless him, but the body isn't. He's compensating to avoid his back, and even doing that, he's out after just a few competitive rounds, for several weeks. That tells me he's not gonna make it. I don't buy the excuse of the long trip to Dubai: it only would be an issue if he's unfixable in the first place. This combined with the ongoing requirements these days to compete at the highest level of the sport, he may show up and try, but won't win. And he likely shouldn't be showing up anyway. And I'm a glass half full kinda guy. Hope I'm wrong. Tiger, prove me wrong!
  13. In case you don't remember or missed the news, Billy Hurley lost his dad to suicide back in 2015. Thread is here: So this week on Valentine's Day, Billy writes a letter to his dad and posts it on the Players' Tribune, a cool blog site I had not before seen. The letter's making its way all around the golf sphere, and was mentioned during yesterday's broadcast of the Genesis tourney: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/billy-hurley-to-my-dad/ It's heartbreaking, it's therapeutic, it's brave; it's beautiful. I've been close to similar situations; really puts things in perspective. God bless ya, Billy & family.

  15. This is sad news to read. The MetLife has flown over my house on the way to nearby tourneys. It's on my bucket list to ride in one.
  16. Has anyone ever seen golf tees made from compressed talcum powder/flour/baking soda, with a little binder? Think billiard chalk in tee shape. Could be a blast. I only charge a 5% royalty for the idea.
  17. Ha, yeah, it's a rampant disease across all live sport broadcasts. Trying to watch a game and just focus on the action of the game while the camera switches to the crowd, some vignette, and at the same time the commentators are going on about their glory days, some hobby, current events, and on and on. There is a game happening, y'know, that fans are wanting to actually watch.
  18. Brass keychain fob I've owned for over 25 years. I'll be buried with it. Nothing special for anyone else to notice, but it's opened many a bottle and been a faithful lifelong companion.
  19. good to hear about those speeds. fibers are being buried in my neighborhood now for AT&T gigapower, north Georgia suburbs. I'm anticipating switching over in the next few months and cutting the cable simultaneously.
  20. Yes. Birdie. Better than I thought it would be. Some really good performances coupled with some unique characters and a new twist on the storyline. I'm an Anna Kendrick and JK Simmons fan, and I enjoyed seeing Lithgow. Affleck is not one of my favorites, but he did well.
  21. Erik, congratulations. As a member of a few other online forums, I've always appreciated the way you moderate this site, and the pride you take in keeping it organized, updated, and relevant. It's really been a wonderful place to learn from and participate in over the years. I especially like your logical approach with regard to the swing, rules, etc., and helping to bust the many myths out there. I really do feel like you have the highest of intentions and will go where the data and truth leads without ego. That's a rare and special quality. Thanks for all you've done in support of this great game.
