you break the law and all you have to do is return the profit? If I rob a bank, I don't go to jail as long as I return everything I took?

There are economic consequences to this discrimination. Having access to these "elite institutions" has direct impact to one's earning potential. Every private club in the world touts the economic benefits one can accrue from being a member. If you're a member at Augusta, every golfer would want to be your friend. You can't ignore this. If men/women were truly equal, you're right it wouldn't matter, but the economic reality is men/women are not equal. In my opinion, the more advantaged group has to make allowances for the less advantage. Though lots of white people are members/employees of the NAACP, they wouldn't be impacted economically if they weren't allowed to be. Remove the economic component and no one cares; no one complains the KKK does not allowing black people.

I fixed your post. Excluding these two words is why I think your post and those like it are annoying and borderline insulting. That's your opinion for how the game should be played. Those principles are some random guy's opinion for how the game should be played. You agree with his opinion. Great. I don't. Others who disagree as well are not "whining" when they suggest a rule change or suggest a rule is dumb. They're voicing their opinion which, in my opinion, has just as much validity as yours. There are multiple examples where randomness is ignored because a perceived "advantage" is gained. For example, after a ball is dropped it can't roll more than two club lengths. A randomly dropped ball could/would roll that far. And? Is there something special about that? "Golf rules purists" don't like the way an anchored putting strokes looks. "I don't like something" is a better reason than "unfair"?

How does one know if the ball rolled in due to being on the lip vs being blown by the wind? In other words, ball is on the lip, but it wouldn't have fallen in if not for being blown by the wind. I'm not discarding anything. I'm debating the merits of a particular rule (opinion). "The rules are" two groups opinions for how the game should be played. Rules (opinions) change all of the time and usually through debate.
-
Sorry, I misunderstood "outside agency" - either way, my understanding is consistent with everyone else's: the wind can move your ball and you get no relief from that. So then Horschel should've gotten a penalty stroke when his ball moved after it was supposed to be at rest? oh no b/c it wasn't on the "lip of the cup." Sounds like your comfortable with the rules of golf making an exception for "lip of the cup." Fine, just acknowledge it is an exception. There are no golf gods buddy; these rules are simply people's opinions. Quoting them doesn't change the fact they are just an opinion. How is "lip of the cup" defined btw? And if my ball is not on the "lip of the cup" but just next to the hole on a windy day it's in my best interest to wait a long while? Or do you never get credit for the wind blowing your ball in to the hole?
-
I know; I don't disagree with that rule, but it's arbitrary considering wind should be an outside agent. Do you agree they're inconsistent? For 16-2 to hold, when that ball started rolling after horschel put it back down, the roll in to the water would've been hit his 4th stroke, right? Or it would be smart for players with balls hanging on lips, to mark their ball, and set it back down to get an additional 10 seconds.
-
Why is this situation different? Seems arbitrary to me. Horschel was at his ball for more than 10 seconds. Rule 16-2 Ball Overhanging Lip Falls into Hole Q.Gina has played two strokes and her ball is lying on the putting green. She plays her third stroke and the ball is overhanging the hole. Before Gina can reach her ball, it falls into the hole. What is Gina`s score for the hole? A.3. As the ball fell into the hole before 10 seconds after Gina reached the hole had passed, she is considered to have holed out with her third stroke. If Gina had reached the ball, waited 10 seconds, then the ball fell into the hole, Gina`s score for the hole would have been 4.

Poll: Is this the 12th at Augusta National?
jgreen85 replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
the trees did it for me too; it's looks pretty crappy when it's not master's time if this was indeed #12 in Amen's Corner -
wow, if you didn't have the pictures I wouldn't have believed you. this is almost like one of those TPC commercials where the average joe's locker is next to a tour pro and said pro walks in.

They were on the clock again today.Spieth confused again probably. "Everyone isn't waiting for the wind to change?"

I'm with the above posters regarding the 5:30am wake up. As far as I know, there's nothing particularly special about getting to the gym at 5:30am, is there? As long as a he does two work outs per day? I can start work outs at 5:30am and then 2:30pm or 9am and 6pm. What's the difference? lol

It depends for me. On vacation, I play to have fun, so I'll play one tee up from what I'd play if the course was my home course. In practice, I'll play the tees I think will challenge my game and grow my golf "muscles." Just like weight training, one would never only do 1-rep maxes or 20 rep sets. I'm in league at work and our monthly tournament is my "max" day. Whichever tee box they pick, I try to really play well. Ego is never a consideration for me. I'm quite comfortable in my skin in general, and this is golf, a hobby, and not a sport I expect to be dominant because I didn't pick it up until age 24.

easily avoidable - don't play slow - shot clock violations are turnovers, many nba games decided by one or two possessions. Delay of game penalties consistently end drives in football. And, oh yea, the old saying from the bums in College Station "We didn't lose, we just ran out of time," but sometimes true - NBA/NFL/NHL teams making decisions b/c the game is about to END. Finish your round in a very comfortable 4 hrs. Very, very low bar. I like the idea of timeouts too. Another option is to give them a total amount of time, say 72 shots at 3min each. If the player plays a shot in 2min that gives him/her an extra minute to use on another shot. Imagine a guy in contention on sunday trying to beat both the clock and his competitor. Would add drama and not reduce it imo.

nonsense. this could EASILY be developed and implemented. Have a volunteer follow each player and click a stop watch when he/she approaches his/her ball. Boom! 1950s technology gets this done. every 10 seconds over costs you a stroke. These guys are out there for WINS. Strokes will get their attention immediately.

PGA Tour doesn't have enough money/volunteers to have every player on the clock at all times? Every sport - except baseball and it's a big topic for them - has a shot clock/game clock; golfers should have one as well. This is really is a joke at this point. What's the hold up from implementing this? oh yea, Chess has a freaking play clock. Think of all the variables chess players have to consider, but golfers can't get put on a clock GTFOH!! Finally, I hope I do see players' performance suffer as a result. It's a skill to be able to play well and play fast, and a skill I think golf should reward.

wouldn't it be better if he's only there on the weekend. I thought the biggest challenge maintaining greens is b/c they have to be kept in playable conditions 7 days a week. Wouldn't it be better for the greens to grow a little bit during the week and then when he's there on the weekend freshly cut/roll them to perfection?

I felt like the coverage this week on NBC took all of the feedback and incorporated it. Could've used more shot link though.

agreed. I was so frustrated with them showing Bubba stand around waiting for a rules official; I never want to see a putt less than 4ft again unless it's the 16th hole and beyond. Thank goodness for DVR and other sports.

Why do the golf announcers brag so much about this private golf course? It makes sense to gush over Pebble b/c it could encourage more people to drop $500 to play it. The TV audience does not have that option for Riviera. Do the rich members of Riviera get their jollies off listening to this? Does this annoy any one else?

I'd like them to create solar leggings like they have solar sleeves. I don't like using sunblock, so slip on leggings would be great. I currently wear pants for every round, but I imagine shorts plus leggings might be cooler (temperature).
