Did anyone see Tiger spit on one of the greens in the final round? It was huge, then he went and smeared it around with his putter. It was right near the hole, too. Even the announcers were saying how disgusting it was.

Come on Tiger, a lot of other players are going to have to putt over that. That's just nasty. Ironic he was playing in Sergio's group too, I thought.

Saw it, and have seen quite a few do it as well.  This was also captured during the WM Phoenix Open; I recall Jason Dufner dropping a "pinch bowl" hanging spit near one of the greens (nice camera pick-up).  He also was caught dropping his snuff pinch on a tee box.  Cameras are everywhere; just do your thing with that in mind.

Stuff like that is just stupid, you'd expect more from grown ups.

Or, this happens all the time and we just don't see it. Not saying it does, just playing devils advocate here. Its hard to imagine anyone thinking that's ok unless it's regularly practiced? For all I know, this happens all the time at tournaments and we just don't normally see it. Personally, If I really need to spit, I'm going to spit but I'm not going to do it on the green. Regardless, definitely not a very classy move by Tiger.

There was a tournament during the playoffs last year where Matt Kuchar horked up a lung on the green. Yeah, it was on TV.

I think it's gross, but I also make a point to not watch the players bench during hockey games. So many nasty fluids get expelled when people are playing sports.

What are you kidding? Its basically akin to spitting on your office carpet, or even slamming your club down into the putting surface. I could not imagine hocking a wad even on the worst kept muni green.

This does not happen all the time, Tiger was pissed off, plain and simple.

Aaaargh, and there I was about to eat my breakfast bagel.

Are we going to see thousands of little boys learning to play the game start spitting on the green, in imitation of their hero?

Did he make the bogey putt btw?   Let's hope not.

I've seen Woods spitting in every tournament I've seen him in the the past 3 years...obviously, if other players do it, you never see it because the cameras aren't on them as much.

How many other golfers spit on the green the way TW did then?  I don't know but I've never seen it and I've watched a lot of players on the green over 45 years or so, mostly on TV but also live.  I'm not saying noone else has ever done it but it's unacceptable behavior surely, whoever does do it, and I assume the great majority of pros would agree.

I admit to spitting discretely at times, on the course and elsewhere, I don't have a problem with that per se -  but I emphasize discretely.  Spitting before a putt like that is about as indiscrete as one can imagine.  Life is all about making distinctions.  To be generous, I suspect that Tiger was so pissed at himself he just wasn't thinking clearly.  He is a very distracted hombre at the moment, which is why he can't seem to play well 4 days in a row.  Or even 3.

Taken from Yahoo! Sports:

Ewen Murray, a commentator for Britain’s Sky Sports, said on air after seeing Woods spit on the second tee during the second round that it was “one of the ugliest things you will ever see on a golf course.”

On Sunday, after Woods spit on the 12th green, Murray said on air that “somebody now has to come behind him and maybe putt over his spit. It does not get much lower than that.”

Kind of redefines Ugly American.  Good that he got fined by the European Tour, not that he will miss the money.

Is he a member of the Euro Tour now?  From the article:
The code of conduct states that when a player becomes a member, he "voluntarily submits himself to standards of behaviour and ethical conduct beyond those required of ordinary golfers and members of the public".
He probably will, but I wonder if Woods pays the fine?  And what the Euro tour would do if he didnt.

If he refuses to pay the fine, then I would say total ban from all events over-seas is in order. However I could not imagine him not paying the fine.
