It's one of the few sports that, while improved by playing with a friend, doesn't require others to be able to play.

I play golf because its the only sport I can physically handle. I broke my ankle years ago and can no longer really run or I'd still be playing football, basketball, softball, etc.....

Because the voices tell me to… It gets me outside for a social, enjoyable challenge that burns calories

You hear them too? My wife never beleives me! :-P

For me its the challenge, the fresh air and, fingers crossed and with luck, the fun!

Also really good stress relief whether its by playing great golf or letting that anger out at the little white ball!

Took up golf too late in life (46 ... 50 now)  - age and putting hold me back enough so I will never be good enough to compete ... but there's just something about it - it's the most addicting activity I've ever taken up.    Can't get enough of it - play way more than I should, but it's more exercise than I've ever gotten before, so I can justify it.

I used to play as a kid but took a 15 year break or so. I enjoy anything that requires precision and skill, golf, guitar, guns, lots of things. I also enjoy the social and relaxation aspects of recreational golf.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

I play golf because I enjoy the walk....I enjoy the course....I enjoy the fact that it is me against myself and the course.  No matter how bad I play it could always be worse...no matter how good I play it could always be better.  It is a sport that you can constantly play and improve and yet never really reach the end........

Because my parents gave me a 4 iron for christmas 14 years ago.

I like the challenge of golf, the fact that it's all up to me and I can both practice and play alone.

I like the fact that it's outdoors (even though it means I can only play golf half the year).

I like a good walk, especially on green grass in the sun.

I like the precision of it.

I like the social aspects of it, spending time with people I normally never would.

I like the mood of golf, the way golf players and fans act. I prefer this quiet admiration and golf clapping better than the roaring songs on a football stadium. The way golf is as a sport is simply appealing to me as a person.

I like that there are so many aspects of it and that you can always learn something new.

I like the handicap system and how you can beat someone vastly better than you.

I like the feeling of flopping on the couch after 4 hours of golf and a shower.

I like the typical personality you find amongst golfers.

Growing up I played a lot of baseball. There were no golfers in my family, but I found out at an early age that it was far easier to hit a ball that wasn't moving. After that golf became like a siren, luring me to the golf course with her magical spell.
