So I'm playing in my league last night and I have the round of my life going. I'm -3 after 4 holes and the 5th hole is a par 5 reachable in 2. I reach it in two and just lip out my eagle putt. Tap in for birdie. -4 after 5. Next hole I lip out another putt for birdie, -4 after 6. I'm playing lights out!

So on the way to the next hole my partner looks me right in the face and guess what he says? You guessed it, "you have a hell of a round going". I'm like, "really! I hadn't noticed" (I was being sarcastic). I proceeded to finish bogey, par, double for a -1. Still good round, but I had a chance at our league record of -4 and totally blew it.

Anyone else have similar experience?

LMAO! You knew it was gonna happen. Someone was going to say it. Its like when your on the tee, and you know that ball is going in the lake, and someone says, "I think I saw it splash". You just have to block people out.

I know it's not as extreme but it would be like telling a pitcher, "Hey you know you have a perfect game going" or a telling a bowler in the 9th frame, "Hey you are on pace for a 300". Thanks but no thanks! Compliment me at the end.

You hadn't noticed until he told you?

I'm thinking you would have choked just the same way without any outside input. We have met the enemy, and he is us.

I don't know if I would call it superstitious? Superstitious would be needing to use the same ball marker every round or life as we know it might end!

There's different levels of it lol.

You let it get into your head. Think of it this way, you managed to break par! You did better than 99% of golfers ever do.

Thats why i always know were i am at, i get use to it. You can get use to the pressure if you been on that last hole, knowing you need a par or better to shoot the best round of your life, when you nail it your there.

But if i am doing that well, i usually do not talk much, i am concentrating, and if someone talks to me they will only get is a Uh-huh or a yea.

Bah... I'm gonna take the opposite stance that everybody else has here and say that, yes... stuff like that bothers me and is a severe weak point in my game. A few weeks back, I was playing a really good round and was in contention for low net in our club for that event. As we got to the 15th or 16th hole (can't remember now), I hit a decent drive, but it left me on the left side of the fairway and I had a pond to cross to reach the green. Waiting for the green to clear, I had my mind made up on a 5 iron layup... I had the swing worked out in my head... and then my partner says something along the lines of don't even think about the water.

Well, up until that point, I hadn't. I was going to put the ball out beyond the 100 yard marker in the fat part of the fairway and then get on in regulation. Now I'm stewing because I hadn't asked him for any advice... and I'm looking at the water thinking I should shut him the hell up and go for it... but I knew I'd be far better off laying up. I take my stance, make the swing and completely pull the ball into the water. My drop gave me a bad lie and I dunked ANOTHER in the pond. I posted a triple bogey on that hole... and my anger carried over to the next hole where I posted a quadruple bogey and those two holes cost me any shot at the tournament where I ended up in 3rd place with a net 71 that COULD have been a net 67.

I hate stuff like that... keep it to yourself unless you're asked about it or the person who you want to make the comment to says something first.

Still... you're -1 was a great round even with the hiccups coming home.

Sounds like an excuse to me. You put the ball in the water no one else. It is pretty presumptios to assume if he hadn't said anything you don't implode anyways

I guess if he said "Man, you're playing like crap!", you would have finish at 28? Haha. I think you let the great start catch up with you. It would have happened anyway. But maybe next time you get off to a great start, you will have a better chance of finishing it.

I have to agree. Short of someone physically affecting your swing, it's on you to execute the shot.

I love how everyone pretends to act like that wouldn't have bothered them! Don't misunderstand me, I'm not blaming anyone else but myself. To me its like a unwritten rule, if someone is doing something that they normally wouldn't be doing, ie: no hitter or bowling a 300, you don't have to let them know. THEY KNOW! You think anyone went up to David Duval when he shot his 59 and said. Dave, man you have a chance at a 59!! No way!

I've been in this situation....I simply like to say something cocky like "I am feeling it today, and I'll tell you now it ain't going away...so good luck"......or..."Yup, when I bring my "B" game you may have a chance at me, but today you can just fukkin forget-about-it"

I thrive on that sh*t......
