Chip/pitches 50 yards in to an elevated green have always given me trouble. I always leave them short no matter how many times I tell myself to carry the ball farther. Any tips to making more reliable shots in these situations?

One thing I have noticed is that most of these shots are on an uphill lie and I invariably forget to adjust.

I struggle with this as well. When I execute it well, it's because I tell myself to make sure I swing through the ball. A lot of times I shorten my follow through which leaves it short. It's a tough shot for sure.

Problem with that is there is no clubbing up from 40 yards out. It's a shortened shot no mater the club in hand. I suppose I could set up with the 60 and switch in my 56 right before I hit

You say that you are hitting from an upslope. An upslope as small as 4 degrees (which is pretty small) will turn your 56 degree wedge into a 60. When shooting uphill, go down a club or two, hitting a pitching wedge instead of a sand wedge, for example.

Decide where you want the ball to land on the first stop and the trajectory. Are you hitting a low chip or a high pitch. Then go out and practice this shot 2 hours every day for a week.

Try your best to land the ball right on the base of the flag stick. Your subconscious and the trick of perspective will generally do the rest.

Or you will end up actually landing the ball at the flag stick and roll it past.

With 50ish yarders I just try to feel as if my hands are dead. I find that by keeping my hands totally passive I make much better contact. If I need to hit a specific shot with a certain amount of wrist action I can, but half shots are much easier to me if i let my shoulders and hips do the work. I find that these shots are best played mostly in the air, with the ball landing up near the hole.

I've landed pin high and rolled 4-5 meters past enough to know it. I also know that if I don't focus too much on the pin, rather the shot itself, getting a smooth chip, the body can take care of the distance. I prefer hitting towards a intermediate target though, helps me rely less on just hoping the body will work all the time.

Hit the shot for 70 yards and do not think of it as a 50 yard elevated green

Bump-n-run that sucker right up the slope. I alwayed tried to fly everything and one day couldnt hit the broad side of a barn so my playing partner told me to try to start bumping and running and it actually works well for me for elavated greens.

Thanks for all the tips guys. This is a hard shot to simulate in practice as I just don't have any hills to hit in to. I think almost all of it is mental and my error in not setting up properly. Like I said, if I am in front of or off to the side of an elevated green I am usually on an uphill lie. I try to put a bit more on the swing but my correction is defeated by hitting it a bit fat. Back in the stance is a good plan. I will have to try a bump and run and see what happens.

Not seeing the bottom of the stick on a pitch/chip throws me and that is the mental part I have to overcome.

put the ball farther back in your stance.. The ball will get more of the true angle of the face of the club and go higher. Should also check and spin more too.
