wants some thoughts on this question.  i think it may be a generational thing, but I know there are lots of opinions on this one.

What's your opinion on chewing gum while playing golf?  Obviously, it isn't acceptable to smack gum when someone is hitting or to spit it out on the course.

Do you think it is OK for someone who just chews gum while playing?.

I don't see how this would matter... but I've been surprised by less in the past, so....

Why on earth do you care? Does it bother you or do you have something in general against chewing gum? I am honestly wondering if you are actually pulling our leg with your question...

No smacking = no problems. I have never run into this as an issue on the golf course.

As long as you put it in the trash when you are done with it (as opposed to somewhere someone could step on it), I don't care. It can even be a good thing, people don't smell as bad.

Don't care as long as you dispose of it properly.  I guarantee that nobody wants to be trying to dig an old wad of gum out of their cleats.

This is funny.

I have no problem with it.

In fact, I ritually chew gum when I play. I chew gum when I take tests or do anything requiring mental focus. It just helps me deal with energy and be more 'up'. Each round, I chew gum the first few holes and I'll chew multiple pieces throughout the round if I feel like I 'need' to. I realize this is kooky thinking and/or behavior...but I'm a lefty with self-diagnosed Adult ADD, so cut me a break.

No problem at all, assuming you aren't doing it loudly, blowing bubbles during my backswing, spitting excessively, or disposing of it other than in the trash (or swallowing it if that's your thing, I guess).

So - who were you talking to????  You need to supply a quote for your comment to have any meaning.

I assumed Basscat348 because he's the only one to have taken an opposite viewpoint but, yeah, quotes are always appreciated.

Why is this not a valid thread? Because everyone seems to agree?

Personally I have a couple issues with gum chewers. 1.) when they spit the gum out where ever they please (been covered), 2.) when they crack their gum like a teenage girl - I really hate that noise and have trouble not judging grown men who do that.

I'm a not a good person to ask since yesterday I stepped on a wad with my very new, $200 Adidas golf shoes.  If no one ever spit it out on the course, I'd be ok with it.  Having trouble removing it from my spikes.  Grrr!
