Your Worst Ever Round?

What is your worst ever round? I don't mean score wise, but rather that round where you just felt like giving up golf for good after playing it

I think I may had mine on Tuesday. I hit 12 Greens in Regulation (very good for me) but I had SEVEN (yes the number after 6) 3 putts and 42 putts in total!! Ended up shooting 86 when a round in the mid 70s should have been on the cards with my ballstriking.

What about everone else? (Sorry if there's a thread like this....I didn't spot one)

Played 36 holes with my father in law and his friends one Sunday (they play 4 team scramble except all 8 play together) - the middle 18 I could not get the ball off of the ground. To compound matters, I had 7 old guys giving me advice. Finally at the turn I grabbed a couple of beers and the nerves and thinking went away.

If I hadn't finished strongly that last 9, I am sure that it still would've been in my head the next week.

Not my worst score ever, but last April I went to play 9 holes after work with an attorney from the Public Defender's office in Lockport, NY.  The season had just started, but I had two full 18 hole rounds in the bag and they were stellar-77 and 79 without losing a ball.  I didn't talk up my game any but he asked how I'd been shooting and I told him I'd just had a couple very nice rounds.  I think the course was called Willowbrook, nice layout, mature trees, not too long or difficult. I was all over the place, spraying/slicing drives, hitting approach shots thin, blading chip shots through the green.  Hit a few good shots, but were always followed by some serious crap.  I shot +13 (49) for 9 holes, and I was very lucky to get that.  My ballstriking probably merited a 54 or 55.  I was clearly frustrated and disappointed, though they guy was still good company, and I never got another chance to play with him again before moving back to Arizona.  So that stands out among my bad rounds.

Not my worst ever, but an amusing contrast to your round.  I shot a 108 last year with only 26 putts!

My worst ever round was at a high school golf match when I was in 10th grade, where I shot a 75. High school matches are nine holes.

Yesterday.

86 at a tough course...3 fairways, 6 greens. 30 putts. A LOT of up and downs.

Felt terrible.

I can't remember my worst round ever, I have been playing high 70's to mid 80's golf for the past 4-5 years, and i took about a 3 years break during college. But my most recent bad round would have to be Heritage golf club in Columbus Ohio about last year. I believe i shot just over 100, lost about half a dozen golf balls on one hole alone. It wasn't a pleasant day.

Though i can say thats a good thing since it takes a really bad day to just push 100, means i am consistant enough to know were i should be and what my skills are. I do remember the old days of having a day in the 120's, but one summer of practice, nearly everyday, took care of that.

My first varsity tournament in high school at our home course Hidden Creek in Burleson, Texas. I was paired with Stephen Lietzke, yes Bruce Lietzke's son, and to make matters worse, Bruce was walking the course with us, at a distance of course. My nerves overwhelmed me, I missed just about every fairway, three putted darn near every hole and ended up shooting a 104...while Stepehn Lietzke calmly and cooly turned in a 68..."my bad coach" lol

My wife bought me an 18 hole walking lesson with the pro at my club for our anniversary.  I had taken a handful of lessons from this pro way back in late Feb. / early March, videotaped them, and had since chopped about 25 strokes off my score.  I was shooting consistently in the mid-90s, and had bagged an 86.  I was very eager to show how far I had come.  Instead, my putter and irons went absolutely haywife and, despite hitting 9/16 fairways (good for me - count two greens on par 3s as fairway) with solid distance, I shot a 116.  It got so bad at one point that after two good shots on a par 5 I had an 8 iron to get on in regulation and lined up so poorly that my weight transfer caused me to actually fall over after the swing, hooking a very thin shot about 120 yards dead left into a water hazard for *another hole*.  On the two greens I hit in regulation (both par 3), I triple putted one and four putted the other.

It was insanely disappointing and that is the only point in my quest to get to the 70s I felt like giving up.  Oh, and I had 46 putts, which is almost an average triple putt.

Those are the worst.  You know you've improved and wanting to demonstrate the improvement to someone that hasn't seen you play in a while and then having your game come apart which makes you look really stupid if you've talked up your game at all.  I've learned to set the expectations of playing partners very low so I don't put added pressure on myself.

I shot 63 my first qualifying round in high school when I was 14.  The only problem was it was for 9 holes.

How right you are.  For the past 2 months, I've played @ 16 rounds at 5 different courses.  My worst score was a 90.  Other than that, all 80s with a couple in the 70s.  Sure enough, go out with a bud I haven't played with in a while and shoot a nice fat juicy 103.  Go back to the same course a week later with my regular foursome group and played in worse conditions (wind gusts up to 25 mph) and shoot an 80.  Golf is a cruel mistress.

As the OP of this thread, I would like to show how strange the game of golf is. Today I played the reverse of the round I posted in the original post. Hit only 7 greens and hit it poorly all day, but had only 28 putts in a round of 74. 5 less greens hit in regulation but 12 shots better due to 14 less putts

First round of a 36 hole club event this year. Hosting a group of visiting players I card a smooth 12 stableford points on my home track. Very embarrassing.

On the plus side it was the spur to finally start getting some tuition and the prizes for coming dead last in a large field were quite good.
