It doesn't have to be golf either. Baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lawn darts, anything.

The Phillies game I talked about in the other thread is still probably number 1 for me just because it was a walk off but the Flyers game today was a close second.  It was awesome seeing them finish off the Penguins, even though it was only the first round the Penguins are one of the Flyers biggest Rivals so it had the intensity of a later round.  Place was going nuts the entire time.

I'd have to say seeing Phil win his 1st major at Augusta is probably the best sporting event I've seen. When he made that putt on 18 that place went crazy but I also have some very close 2nds.

Raiders winning the AFC in 2001-02 over the Titans in Oakland I was glad I was in prime drinking shape or wouldn't have made it through the day

Game 1 of the World Series Red Sox vs Cardinals in 2004 was a great experience and I don't like either team.

My first time going to Notre Dame to see a game (Love em or Hate em it's still a cool experience)

Aw man I remember that I was watching on TV.  I have a signed baseball I got at the Phillies Phestival that year that he wrote "No Hitter 4-27-03" under his signature.  I can't believe it has been 9 years since that happened!

The easy answer is Game 7 of the 2002 World Series when the Angels finished off the Giants.  But since I am not an Angels or Giants fan, and the game wasn't a nail-biter I'd have to go with:

Game 3 of the 1998 World Series, Padres vs. Yankees.  It was the first game in San Diego with the Padres down 2 games to 0, their entire season rested on this game.  When the Yanks started a rally in the eighth inning they decided to bring in Trevor Hoffman.  That moment was the most exciting, intense moment of any sporting event I have been to.  What followed - a home run by Scott - effing - Brosius - not so much.

Also, divisional playoff game in 04-05 between Chargers and Jets.  In the rain in San Diego, Chargers tied it on the last play of the game to send it to OT (after a penalty on the previous last play of the game).  Of course, again my team lost - this time because of a couple of missed field goals.

Apparently, I need new teams.

1993 Sugar Bowl - Alabama 34 - Miami 13.  No shot... shouldn't even play the game... Miami is the greatest... what?

2011 BCS Championship Game - Alabama 21 - LSU 0 .  Shouldn't be there... blah, blah, blah... shut the hell up... shut the hell out.  Greatest defensive effort ever!

1986 Masters final round (Nicklaus over Norman and Kite)

1975 Masters final round (Nicklaus over Johnny Miller and Tom Weiskopf)

Braves-Mets, July 4th 1985, 19 inning game

I love Jack Nicklaus, but at the time I was pulling for Weiskopf in 75 and Norman in 86.  The Golden Bear broke my heart both of those days.

And in the Mets-Braves game, they finished at 5:00 AM the next morning.  Since it was the July 4th game it was followed by fireworks.  There were many calls to the police that morning that the Russians were bombing Atlanta.  (I have two adopted kids from Russia, so I mean no offense to that nation... but at the time we were still in the latter stages of the Cold War)

Being a San Diego pro sports fan is for people who don't get enough bitter disappointment in the daily life.    I think we're a city of blindly optimistic masochists.

Ha, definitely!  I also went to game 4 of the NLCS in '98 and Game 3 of the 05' NLDS ... also both losses.  Maybe I'm just bad luck.

And I'm also bitter about a couple of things ... Tino Martinez struck out in Game 1 98' WS so he should never have gotten that extra pitch (my wife is from NY and teases me about that all the time) and in the 07' one game playoff against Colorado, Matt Holliday was out, so technically that game still isn't over.  Argh.

I just realized I forgot to include mine in the OP. I've never been to a golf event, and I've haven't been to any (pro) football games or NHL hockey games. I've been to three Celtics games, but Kevin Garnett injured himself in two of those games. I've been to a few dozen baseball games, mostly at Fenway but I have been to a game at Shea and Camden Yards. Two of them were famous for kind of crapy reasons. The first one was in September 2004, and it was Red Sox/Yankees. It was the infamous Pedro Martinez "I just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy" game, which the Sox lost. The other big RedmSox game I've been to was the 162nd game last year, between the Sox and the Orioles at Camden Yards. After jumping out to an early lead, the Red Sox bullpen faltered late and they lost, completing the worst September collapse in baseball history. So no really good memories for me.

I haven't been to too many sporting events, but I have been to a Notre Dame @ USC back in 2003 when Carson Palmer was in his last year. My sister was attending USC and she and I were in the student section. Being that it was against Notre Dame, the atmosphere was crazy - especially with a small row of Notre Dame fans right in the heart of the student section (don't know how the hell they got there). USC won 45-14 so it was pretty exciting especially with that many touchdowns against ND.

I went out to Notre Dame in 2005 for the "Bush Push" game and it was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to go out this year for the USC game but I'm leaning towards going to Ireland for the Navy game which could end up on my top events attended list.

March 19, 2008 Chelsea v. Spurs in a 4-4 draw. A very wild affair. At one point one of the Spurs players jumped into my viewing section after a goal.
if you have never been to a European Football Match you should put it on your bucket list. I have been to 20-30 NFL games but none have had the electricity in the stadium that soccer match had. The smaller stadiums of the EPL make the intensity that much greater. I have been to games in Barcelona (both stadiums) and neither had the excitement of the EPL match.

Color me jealous.  I'm a West Ham fan, and I'd love to get the chance to get see them play at Upton Park.  Sadly, I probably won't because they're supposed to be moving to the Olympic Stadium after the games  If I can't, I'd like to get into a couple of smaller venues in League One or Two or maybe even Conference football.

Oh crap, I forgot about the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament in 2008 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.  That was amazing as well.  4 games Thursday and 2 games Saturday, UCLA and Stanford came out as the 2 teams headed to the Sweet 16.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
