Etiquette question - girlfriend watching from cart

Is it bad etiquette to have a girl watching from the cart?  Sometimes the marshal will pair us with other golfers.  My girlfriend is always friendly to marshals and other golfers but I am worried that it is considered "rude" or otherwise makes other golfers feel uncomfortable.

Thoughts?

Not rude and no big deal at all. We have significant others ride along all the time at the course where I work.

Does she sit in the middle of the cart or ride on the back like a garbage man? I guess it would be a little weird if I didn't know the guy and maybe less fun if the humor had to be reserved but I don't think it is a big deal.

My girlfriend walks with me when I play but she seems to know everybody in town.

It's not uncommon for people that aren't playing to be on the course. At times I have my instructor, my injured friends along for the fun factor, my drinking buddy, you get the idea along for the ride. Not all at the same time but I have people taggin along all the time, at the club and on the muni. As long as the course staff is cool with it so is everyone else.

I've wondered the same.  My wife wants to come and watch but I wasn't sure if she was allowed or not.

There is nothing wrong with a ride along.................

Yes. From a relationship point of view it's dreadful etiquette.

Why on earth would she be wanting to sit in a cart for half a day while you are doing your thing?

She should have her own things to do or you should be doing something together.

Her sitting watching you do something is not doing something together.

You should know as well as anyone else on here shorty, that golf courses can be as good of an evening walk as a park or lake. He didn't specify 18 holes. I bet he only does 9 with her. Plus women are weird and like hanging out with their guy even if they do not care for the activity. That is the truly messed up part.

I assumed the bad etiquette part stemmed from having people not playing the course out there with the players. To assume someone would be there against their will and miserable is just that an assumption. My experience is people that have never been on a golf course relish the experience even if they don't play. I take a friend with me to a local rural muni for the ride all the time. He loves the view, the landscape, the after round brew in the clubhouse. Just because he can't golf doesn't bother him or me. He would if he could but a disablility makes it impossible. I enjoy explaining the rules and he enjoys me telling him why I play the way I do. I'm not sure who got a bigger kick of seeing the American White Pelican that hangs out in the lake by #1, me or him. He was jazzed when I told him it's there all the time.

One of saddest things you'll ever see is a guy playing cricket all afternoon while the girlfriend sits there and watches.

My opinion is that anyone who has a girlfriend who is happy to watch him play sport and not participate needs a new girlfriend.

Well, especially when she can catch her own crickets and participate herself. That's like a snail race, right? Throw 'em in a circle and see which one hops out first? Girls are not like guys....they'll actually ask to come along and watch their guy do things.. With golf, maybe it's a fear that the BF will grab some extra time with the beverage cart babe. As we all know, hitting that is harder than scoring a date with a super model.

If you're a good golfer she will probably like to come along.  It's the curiosity to see what all the fanaticism is about.

It's no different than going to watch a hockey game where the boyfriend is a player is it?

If you're lousy at golf, she probably will want to join you next time instead of watching and participate as well.  If you're good she will enjoy the round.

If you get married you can forget about having her come along and watch especially if you are a fanatic and golf in the rain.

These are the observations of an old timer who has been there and done that.

In my city on the muni courses you can't get on the course unless you pay green fees.  Too many people sharing clubs.

You could have her come with you when you are not playing with others and constantly talk to you about hair styles, shoes, make-up and other woman stuff. That way you can get a stronger mental focus on your game.....

when my boys were little they used to argue who would get to "ride" in the open bag spot!!! that is awesome and brought back a few great memories.

How does she look in a sun dress? C'mon i wasn't the only one who thought that!!
