Ultimately, I would like to know if i have hit down on the golf ball with my divot starting ahead of the back of where the ball was. Any ideas??

Otherwise definitely painters tape, I'd hate to use a mat after someone covered it in chalk or flour or something. I don't really want my clothes covered in it.
