After Tiger's win last week at Torrey Pines, the tour is going to Arizona this week to TPC Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. If for no other reason, this tournament is unique due to the arena atmosphere at the par 3 16th.

Had read that Vijay was going to play but now has withdrawn. Due to current antler disucssions?

I think it is awesome for this tournament to have a hole like the 16th.  It's a great idea to have some craziness out there on the course.  I tune in to this tournament just to watch the groups go through that hole.

I think Watney is going to come away with the victory this weekend.

Corral all the "IN THE HOLE" people in one place?

The 16th is cool and definitely unique in golf but I like to watch the 17th. I love driveable par 4s in the final few holes at PGA events, it changes the entire dynamic of the leaderboard over the last few holes, especially on sunday.

Totally.  There are a bunch of fun holes coming down the stretch here.  You mentioned 17, and both par 5's are reachable, and one has an island green basically.

I predict Ryan Moore wins this week.  (For selfish reasons ... I want my Trues!  And I want to get them on sale!)

Go Ryno!!!

Yeah, but they get drowned out by all the other people shouting random stuff.  It is comical.  One Pro last year whipped the crowd into a loud roar before his shot so the noise would be constant.  I love how they boo if a bad shot is hit.

Did you all see the Pro Am last night?  Michael Phelps was on.  He told the announcer that before a race, he doesn't even notice the crowd at the Olympics.  Before his tee shot on 16, he said his heard was pounding through his chest.

Bubba.

I'm conflicted by the Wasted Management.

I enjoy it as a one off event, but it sets a bad precedent.

Heh. I don't watch this tournament because of that hole. b2_tongue.gif

I enjoy it once a year, but it would get old on a weekly basis.  Right now, Phil is absolutely torching the golf course (-8 through 10 holes).  It will be interesting to see if he can keep the mojo going the rest of the round and weekend.

Up to -10 thru 14 holes!  I tried to find a place to watch online but was unsuccessful.  I think I'll go to the range instead.

That would be sweet!  I'd like to get a pair of the Black Protos now that I got the White/Grey.  They are sweet!

I can't believe he didn't make the putt on #8 (his 17th) or #9 (his 18th). It was actually brutal to watch. I don't even like Phil, and I feel bad for him after that final putt.

The easier putt was the one on #8 (his 17th) and he left it short. I was shocked at that, under the circumstances.

Yeah, it was on line too. One more rotation was all he needed for a place in history.
